  • Some of the earliest throws involved Wyrmprints. When the game first launched, Adventurers could only equip one Wyrmprint and they were a part of the summoning pool alongside Adventurers and Dragons. For the former, there was an update that allowed Adventurers to equip two Wyrmprints, then five and seven later on. With the latter, Cygames took out the Wyrmprints from the summoning pool and spun it off into its own section of the Store, to be purchased using Eldwater.
  • When the game first launched, Co-Abilities were only counted in Co-Op if that Adventurer was actively taking part in the battle, usually the player's lead Adventurer. If there were two players with the same Co-Ability, only one would be used. As such, many hosts pushed for anyone who had a duplicate effect to switch Adventurers, sometimes even disbanding the room entirely if refused. Not helping matters was that most of the Co-Abilities were generic increases like HP Up or Skill Haste. Eventually, Cygames changed it to where that player's party would be the Co-Abilities used for that player, even during Co-Op, and the variety of Co-Abilities was increased. Cygames also introduced Chain Co-Abilities, which are further specific boosts that allowed much more customization in party makeup, while also not inhibiting Co-Op play.
  • After the "Mega Man: Chaos Protocol" Event left a bunch of players feeling let down, the "Monster Hunter: Primal Crisis" Event won people over by taking full advantage of the crossover potential, from Dragalia Lost characters wearing iconic Monster Hunter gear, to its monsters taking front stage in the event's conflict.
  • The Mana Spirals, as a whole, to older Adventurers, as it either allows them to change their kits to something more usable, or gives them a massive buff that allows them to stand alongside newer fighters.
  • The various Void Weapons with High Dragon's Bane were supposed to be this when challenging the Advanced Dragon Trials, but Standard was still enormously difficult and Expert/Master were virtually impossible without High Dragon Weapons. Eventually, the Chimeratech Weapons were introduced. Fully maxed out, they were almost three times more powerful than a 5-Star Elemental Core Weapon and could be farmed exclusively using materials from their respective Chimera fights. This allowed for much easier grinding of the High Dragons and, later, Agitos while also letting players have a puncher's chance against the harder Event Bosses.
  • During Raid Events, the game would give you a free 4-Star Adventurer and a free 5-Star Dragon. However, the Dragons given to you were universally terrible (outside of possibly Ebisu for Shadow Staff users) and never really used unless you had no other choice. Starting with the "Timeworn Torrent" Event, the free Dragons were discarded entirely and the free Adventurer was bumped up to a 5-Star. In the Dragon's place was a series of special items, called Convictions, that were used to unlock that Adventurer's nodes on their Mana Circles, allowing you to fully max out your new Adventurer's Mana Circles without wasting any Eldwater, Rainbow Orbs, or Testaments.
  • Also during Raid Events, the Silver Emblem loot drops for the Expert difficulty battles were bumped up to be the same as Standard, allowing for an easier time to grind those.
  • When Defense Battles were brought back as a regular feature, players were given a new, Event-only attack that allowed you to rain down Mana Arrows in a wide radius around you. This attack absolutely destroyed pretty much every regular Mook it hit, which helps prevent you from being overwhelmed. And you can use this attack up to three times per quest.
  • The aforementioned Defense Battles, alongside Onslaught Events, also allowed players to collect multiple Looking Glass items, which are used to unlock Castle Stories. Previously, Events only gave out enough Looking Glasses to unlock any Castle Stories that are dropped with that Event, meaning anyone who didn't start Day 1 would have never collected enough to read them all.
  • Fafnir Medals were introduced in the Treasure Trade. You can acquire up to 50 per week and get them just by playing any Quest. Events now also give you a bunch more as rewards. You can take these Fafnir Medals and trade them in for various materials, most notably Greatspheres and High Dragon Tails, allowing even new players to unlock their Adventurer's Mana Spirals, even if they aren't ready to take on the High Dragons yet.
  • In 2020, Draconic Essences were added to Hard and Very Hard quests in Chapters 1-10. By taking on those quests, you could get up to six Essences per day of a specific 5-Star Dragonnote , and once you reach 50, you can use them to unbind a node that specific Dragon. You still need to actually get that Dragon via Summoning first, but now you don't have to worry about getting extra copies or using up your Sunlight Stones to fully unbind them.
  • Early in 2020, a change was made that, when a new player first gains access to the main menu and world map, they will get 20 3-Star Adventurersnote  and a choice of 5-Star Adventurernote  to start out with. This allows new players to quickly form elemental teams and get a head start on doing extra missions and events, without having to wait for Wyrmite or Summon Tickets. The 3-Star Adventurers were also taken out of the Summoning pool, meaning the chances of Summoning a 5-Star Adventurer or Dragon went up slightly. Plus, since the new tutorial means everyone will have them now, those 3-Star Adventurers now show up more often during Story Chapters and Adventure Stories.
  • At the same time, new players could also complete a tutorial for a ton of extra goodies, Wyrmite, and Summon Tickets to bolster their forces even more. A Story Skip option was also added, allowing new players to skip straight to Chapter 11, while also receiving all the rewards for completing the Normal mode of Chapters 1-10, though this has its downsidesnote .
  • Shortly before a new Chapter drops, a few extra story scenes are added to the previous chapter. These Interludes transition from what happened in that Chapter while also teasing what would happen in the next. Though once Cygames started splitting Chapters up to spread over two months, the Interludes were integrated into the story like normal.
  • When the "Fractured Futures" Event was rerun, a new Castle Story was added that explains why Audric didn't get involved in the events of Chapters 11-15 and why none of the current cast sought his knowledge about Alberius' actions.
  • Version 2.0 brought a lot of welcome changes:
    • The Weapons menu was heavily condensed, getting rid of the Tier system entirely and combining the various Void Weapons into one for each element. Furthermore, you can unlock the Void Skills to be used for any Weapon whatsoever. So, for example, you can equip your Yitian Jian (the Agito Shadow Sword) with High Jupiter's Bane and Dull Resistance. And if you preferred the looks of one of the other Core or Void Weapons, the skins for the additional versions unlock as you upgrade your Weapon. You can also unlock up to four extra copies of each Weapon if needed.
    • Alongside the Weapons, the Wrymprints were completely overhauled. Now, you can equip up to three 5-Star and up to two 2/3/4-Star Wrymprints, allowing previously unusable prints new life. While some may lament the loss of multiple effects per print (outside of Event Perks), many of those effects were added to others, boosting their usability. The Augments were also changed to 50/50 HP and Strength per Wrymprint. While that is lower than the 100/100 from before, the ability to equip up to five means that your total Augment score is raised from 200/200 to 250/250. Finally, as unbinding is done via Eldwater instead of combining copies together, duplicate Wrymprints you receive as loot automatically become Eldwater themselves.
    • The new graphical style gives the models cel-shading and makes them pop much more than the old version.
    • Void Dragon, Chimera, High Dragon, and Agito quests have now been split into Solo and Co-Op. The old versions are now under Co-Op, while the Solo versions have reduced HP and power to compensate. The Stamina requirements have also been greatly reduced for Standard and Expert, meaning it's now far easier to grind all of those missions, including the High Dragons and Agito. Although Agito Expert and Master are still tough due to the bad AI. The Solo versions of Advanced Dragon Trials also now have a double drops rotation alongside the regular Dragon Trials and Imperial Onslaught quests.
    • Every Summon now gives you a Wyrmsigil (think Sparking from Granblue Fantasy). If you collect 300 of them (so, 30 Tenfold Summons), you can trade them in for one of the focus Adventurers or Dragons for that banner. And when the banner ends, any remaining Wrymsigils automatically become Wyrmsigil Remnants, which can be used in the Treasure Trade for various high-end items. As a bonus, the High Dragon materials, Knight's Testaments, and Silver Agito Fragments do not have quantity limits like the Fafnir Medal shop, meaning you can trade for them as much as you want. Notably, using Diamantium (the paid currency) actually grants double the Wyrmsigils, so players who wish to support the game with their money get more value out of it.
    • And the biggest of the changes, bar none, is the straight buffs to 150 different Adventurers, bringing them all up to the level of the strongest of the Shadow Adventurers, who, prior to this update, had seen more use in content that they’re not supposed to be in, effectively allowing players to use whatever Adventurers they want without having to be shunned for it.
  • The "Forgotten Truths" Event not only details the truth behind the Goddess Ilia, Elysium, and The Other, but it also puts the spotlight squarely on Zethia, with none of the main characters appearing (outside of the playable Quests, of course, as well as a very brief cameo of Euden and Notte late in the story). It also gave us a human-sized faerie as well as an explanation of how it happens, which will provide an explanation as to how we'll get a playable Notte in the future. Come the March 2021 Gala Dragalia, that wish was granted.
    • The Greatwyrm Dragons are notorious for being pretty terrible in-game despite supposedly being the top Dragons in-universe. Midgardsormr Zero, introduced in this Event, helps rectify that by giving him stats and abilities that put him on the level of other 5-Star Dragons.
  • When the Alberian Battle Royale was first released, there was little-to-no incentive to try and win, with the difference in Battle Points awarded between first and last place being neglible, making grinding for Battle Points tedious. An update in late November 2020 completely changed how Battle Points are awarded. Originally, Battle Points maxed out at 15 for winning the battle, but after the update, getting at least seventh will net you 20 BP, with first place getting you a whopping 80 BP! There was also a Monthly Reward section added, which automatically gives you prizes based on your average total. In addition to a ton of Rupies and other goodies, one of the prizes each month is a Weapon skin based off the portraits/character art of one of the Adventurers.
  • Some people lamented that the Onslaught and Defense Battle Events replaced the Limited Void Battle Endeavors as filler in between the major Raid/Facility Events, since many of the bonuses were, in addition to Wyrmite, large stacks of Void Materials used to craft Weapons. While it doesn't offer a complete replacement, Cygames has made it so that every month or so, there will be a week where certain types of Void Battles will have triple drops, allowing people to grind more materials.
  • Raid Battles were finally added to the Event Compendium, starting with "Fractured Futures" and "Forgotten Truths." While both are heavily stripped down (neither Emblems nor Blazons are obtainable in them), they do allow anyone who missed the events to grab the Friendship Adventurer from that Event, as well as all five copies of the complimentary Dragon if there is one. Best of all, you don't need to actually grind a Friendship Meter, as all you need to do is complete a few of the early quests. The only downside is that the Compendium versions don't include Convictions, so you'll need to unlock their Mana Circles the old fashioned way.
  • A February 2021 update allowed players to register sets consisting of a specific Weapon, a Dragon, and up to five Wyrmprints, allowing one to copy a set from one Adventurer to another. The same update also allowed you to wholesale copy one team to an empty slot. Finally, when playing in Auto mode, your character will automatically shapeshift into their Dragon form (or use their Dragondrive/Persona mode for certain Adventurers), allowing much faster completion of grinding.
  • In April 2021, a new update allowed players to see which teams and loadouts the top players to use for Advanced Dragon Trials, The Agito Uprising, Morsayati's Reckoning, and Rise of the Sinister Dominion. They can then automatically copy that team (assuming they have those Adventurers, Dragons, Weapons, and Wyrmprints) for their own to tackle said battle. The update also reduced the Stamina costs for every quest except The Agito Uprising, Morsayati's Reckoning, and Rise of the Sinister Dominion. The Treasure Trade will get a new sub-section where players can trade in excess Looking Glasses for items like Nature's Blessing, while the amount of Skip Tickets a player can use was raised from 10 to 30. Finally, the combo counter was slightly changed, with the speed of the numbers themselves increasing and a small meter added to let the player know when the combo is about to end.
  • The "Rage of Chronos" Event is the first Raid Event since "Monster Hunter Primal Crisis" to not give the player a free Adventurer strong against the boss. As a makeup, getting 5,000 Gold Emblems gives you a free Dream Summon ticket. It only allows you to get characters from the first two years and doesn't include anyone from the Gala/Limited list, but it was still a welcome prize.
  • The "Shadow of the Mukuroshu" Event addresses two of the major complaints people had with the "Postmortem Panic" Event. First, it's a Defense Battle Event rather than an Onslaught Event, which makes sense with the story (that being the Halidom beseiged by zombies... again), and said Defense Battle is filled with Zombie Troops rather than the normal Imperials. Gameplay-wise, it's the same as previous Defense Battles, but these minor additions are appreciated.
  • A May 2021 update allows players to unlock as many of the first 50 Mana Circle nodes as they can all at once (rather than one circle at a time), upgrade Facilities from the newly renamed Storehouse rather than being forced to place it on the Halidom first, increased the Halidom's level to 11, combining the treasure chest bonuses for the regular Dragon Trials and Imperial Onslaught into one, and the addition of a Medal system, where Adventurers can achieve various medals for surviving specific fights without being knocked out and revived.
  • When Kamuy's Trial dropped and revealed one of the eligible Weapons was Manacaster, fans complained, since there was only one Wind Manacaster in the game at the time (Formal Joachim). Cygames seems to have listened somewhat to that, as Agni's Trial, which also has the Manacaster as an eligible Weapon even though only two permanent Water Manacaster Adventurers are in the game (Lapis and Sharpshooter Sarisse), also allows both Lances and Bows in addition to Staves; also Kamuy's Trial will allow Bows in addition to Lances, Staves, and Manacasters (with Saiga joining Joachim) for all reruns hence.
  • While crossovers like Caged Desire bring in the occasional Newbie Boom, there are those that miss out on much needed Wyrmprints that only came from crossovers, especially Felyne Hospitality, which gives a 15% Critical Damage Doublebuff when someone receives a Defense buff, and was only available during "Monster Hunter: Primal Crisis. That was rectified with the Super Soaking Androids Wyrmprint was added to the Store during the "Toll of the Deep" Event.
  • A July 2021 update allowed players to choose whether to accept that day's Trials of the Mighty Bonus Chest after winning, a new option to automatically clear and open the regular Daily Bonus chestsnote  using Skip Tickets, modifying certain aspects of the main story menus, allowing anyone with a Dragondrive mechanicnote  to transform when controlled by the AI, a Weapon's Copies giving an exclamation indicator anymore, the ability to search for specific Wyrmprints and sort by Wyrmprint Ability, and, much to many players' joy, a new Treasure Trade shop allowing players to trade in Mana, Moonlight Stones, and Steel Bricks for various items.
  • Shortly before the 3rd Anniversary in September 2021, Cygames pushed an update that introduced the item Omnicitenote , an extra node to older Dragons that required an extra 50 Essences, the "Suggested Teams" option to be included on Co-Op as well, and significantly increased the drop amount of various crafting materials in the Void Battles, Imperial Onslaught, Advanced Dragon Trials, and Agito Uprising.note
  • When "Faith Forsaken Part 2" was released, there was a new mechanic implemented for the Nightmare difficulty in which 16 players can try to inflict as much damage as they can in three minutes, with global rewards. However, on day 1, players could not reach the required points for the lowest rank, set at 1 trillion. This was patched for day 2 reducing the lowest reward requirement to 25 billion, and players were rewarded the prizes for how much they have earned retroactively, plus some compensation Wyrmite.
  • In December 2021, there was a MASSIVE update that dumped a ton of stuff. In addition to the debut of the Kaleidoscape and the Primordial Dragon Trials we have the following: Advanced Dragon Trials, Agito Uprising, and Rise of the Sinister Dominion (Standard only) Solo quests became skippable, along with the daily Skip Ticket bonus now 12 instead of 6; both Agito Uprising and Rise of the Sinister Dominion (Again, Standard only) had their Stamina requirements cut; the Alberian Battle Royale became available every day instead of just Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday; more versions of the High Greatwyrms became available in the Treasure Trade for those who ended up releasing them before; Suggested Teams now include Shared Skills; Meene's butterflies no longer disappear when hitting a wall; AI-controlled Sandalphon will de-shapeshift when healing is needed; and "Summertime Saviors" and "Twinkling Twilight" join "Faith Forsaken" Parts 1 and 2 in the Event Compendium.
  • The Kaleidoscape itself is one of these, as they include many high end items (including not just Champion's Testaments, but Sunlight Stones, Adamantite Ingots, and Omnicite) that refresh every month, as well as the special drops from the Legend Difficulty Agito and Sinister Dominion fights, thus allowing even players who can't defeat those bosses to still reap the rewards.
  • An update in January 2022 allows Ilia's alchemic cartridges to be immune to Curse of Nihilty, adds the "Shadow of the Mukuroshu" and "Elementary Escapades" events to the Compendium, changes Sandalphon and Kimono Notte so that they won't shapeshift when controlled by the AI (except for the Kaleidoscape), added some voice lines to the Mini Greatwyrms, and by far the most important update in the history of the game, reduced the Mana cost to Euden's first Mana Circle node to 0.
  • February 2022 saw Cygames drop the remaining Facility Events into the Event Compendium, and then a few days later updated all the previously released Compendium Facility Events to include all the high-end items (Champion's Testaments, Twinkling Sand, etc.) that were missing from their limited run versions.
