** In Episode 25, the Raid on Stohess District arc (and the series finale) is one of these. [[spoiler: Annie/The Female Titan has finally been captured and the Survey Corps/Eren are to be spared by the tribunal for now but at horrible, horrible cost, including hundreds of combined military and civilian casualties and a partly-wrecked Stohess district. The part that gets everyone questioning WasItReallyWorthIt is when Annie encases herself in a crystal of Titan flesh, meaning they can get no answers out of her.]]

* RedHerring: Mikasa's headache has been subjected to this throughout the story. Originally portrayed as a result of her childhood trauma of watching her family get murdered, Eren in Chapter 112 claims [[spoiler:her headache is a side effect of the Ackerman clan's ability that makes the subservient to a host. This point is reinforced by similar scenes of Levi also looking like he is experiencing headaches when thinking about Erwin (although missing the associated sound effect that happens with Mikasa). Ultimately, this explanation was rendered false by the revelation that Zeke explaining to Eren in Chapter 130 he has no knowledge of any such "host slavery" in the Ackerman clan and that Eren lied to Mikasa.]] The real reason for Mikasa's headaches is revealed at the end to be [[spoiler:Ymir Fritz peering into Mikasa's thoughts to see if she would make the choice to kill the one she loves the most, Eren.]]

** There are also hints that the king does this to his children, possibly because they are from a loveless political marriage, possibly because they had hidden agendas, and possibly because the king is a deluded sociopath. It's not clear yet. What IS clear is that he covered up the death of the crown princess when the Titans attacked Wall Maria... and that she died in the same place where Eren got his Titan Shifter augmentation.

* PowerTrio: Eren (TheHero), Mikasa (TheLancer) and Armin (TheSmartGuy), of the ThreeAmigos variety. [[spoiler:Reiner, Bertolt, and Annie provide a contrasting villainous example with their BigThinShortTrio.]]

* MoodDissonance: Episode 25 of the anime [[spoiler: portraying Annie as sympathetic through flashbacks of her past, while simultaneously portraying her Titan form as ugly and monster-like as possible thanks to Titan Eren's beating of her.]]

* NoMoreHoldingBackSpeech: At one point in the anime, Eren can't bring himself to fight because of recent revelations creating subconscious doubt [[spoiler: and the fact that he's been severely injured.]] His friends try to snap him out of it, each in their own way characteristic to them. Mikasa simply says that "[[CatchPhrase The world is a]] [[CrapsackWorld cruel place]]" and that there is [[TakeAThirdOption no other option]]: [[CallBack it's fight or die]]. Armin tells Eren "[[HeroicSacrifice Someone who can't sacrifice anything]] [[CatchPhrase can never hope to change anything]]" and encourages him to [[TheUnfettered abandon his humanity to combat an inhuman threat]]. Jean [[WhatTheHellHero brusquely]] reminds him that everyone's trusting him enough to give their lives for him and that if they stop now, Marco's death will mean nothing. By the time Eren finishes, we're given a summary of everything that's influenced him and motivates him to keep going on, including the discussion of choices he had with Levi and being forced to live with the consequences.

* PeekABangs: Annie has the "concealing something" variety.

* RaceAgainstTheClock: [[spoiler:After Eren initiates the Rumbling and disappeared to parts unknown, Hange and the remaining 104th members form an unlikely alliance with Magath and the warriors to stop him. According to Hange's analysis, the Wall Titans will wipe out the entire continent of Marley within ''4 days''. 3 days have already passed before the alliance finally reach Eren himself]].

* RoaringRampageOfRescue: Mikasa is prone to this when Eren is in danger.

** Mikasa tends to do this whenever something happens to Eren.
** Averted with Levi after [[spoiler: his personal squad is killed by the Female Titan]]. He had every reason to lose it but instead, he kept a leveled head about the situation, noting it was more important to [[spoiler: rescue Eren]] than go for revenge. He delivers an epic beatdown nevertheless.

* OffModel: The second opening and ending are a bit off with the characters, during the ending when the prominent members of the 104th are lined together, it's noticeable that several heights are incorrect; for instance, Annie is taller than Eren when she's the second smallest, Krista looks normal sized, Armin and Connie are roughly the same height and are just about the same height as Eren.
** The series as a whole has its moments of recycled (and often [[LimitedAnimation limited]]) animation and bizarre errors. Unusual for a Production I.G series, but justified in that Production I.G is not the primary animation company.[[note]]Instead, the main animation firm is Studio Wit, an offshoot of I.G[[/note]] These errors have been addressed in the [[EnhancedOnDVD Blu-Ray releases]].
** Some panels in the first 12 or so chapters of the manga... ''vary'' in artistic quality. ArtEvolution definitely kicks in, but it can be a bit jarring for those who jump from the anime to the beginning of the manga.

* ProtagonistTitle: [[spoiler:Revealed to be one!]]

* NoConservationOfEnergy: Titans produce a large amount of body heat, yet they will only eat humans, who haven't been available to eat in large numbers for nearly 100 years. Due to their lack of digestive system, they ''don't even get nourishment'' from eating humans, leaving it unclear as to why they keep doing it and ''where'' they even get nourishment from. [[spoiler: Later in the series, however, it is very heavily implied that the Titans' motivation to eat humans is due to the [[WasOnceAMan transformed Eldians]] ''desperately'' trying to find and consume a Titan-Shifter like Eren so that they will return to human form from the [[AndIMustScream miserable existence of being a Titan]].]] * NoConservationOfMass: [[spoiler:It's unexplained where the mass/energy comes from to generate a Titan body by the Shifters. For what it's worth the body mass does seem to release a high amount of heat as energy when the human leaves it and it begins to disintegrate]]. Later on, it's briefly explained that [[spoiler:the flesh and bones to form Titan bodies are transferred through "Invisible Paths" which connect all Eldians. It remains unclear where the Titan flesh and bones originate from before being transferred however]].
