''Generator Gawl'' is a TwelveEpisodeAnime from Studio Tatsunoko Productions and director Seiji Mizushima (who would later direct Anime/FullmetalAlchemist and Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 among many other projects) that ran from October 6th 1998 to December 22nd 1998.

[[{{Zeerust}} Set in the future of 2007]], Professor Takuma Nekasa uncovers a gene code that will unlock the human body's greatest mystery and expose mankind to its greatest threat. To correct this, [[ThreeAmigos Gawl, Koji, and Ryo]], three young scientists from the future travel back in time to undo this mistake. Appearing three months before the incident they find themselves facing [[MagnificentBastard Ryuko Saito]], a scientist who prefers that the future remain the same, and his Generator allies.

!!''Generator Gawl'' provides examples of:

* AllPartOfTheShow
* ApocalypseHow: Planetary societal collapse at the least. Kubere obtained its power by using its technology to trigger and control World War III, bringing about the destruction of the majority of humanity.
* DubText: The delivery of the English dub unintentionally suggests a ''lot'' of HoYay between Koji and Ryo, to the point where they act like a cool, stoic {{Seme}} and his blond {{Uke}} husband. [[OneHeadTaller Koji's even a head taller than Ryo]].
** Given Masami's remark to Natsume about how Gawl might be the only one she ''could'' date, this may actually be intentional.
* HairDecorations: Masami's 'haircan and four white ball-things' may or may not apply; Gawl doesn't think it does.
* {{Expy}}: [=*cough*=]''Manga/{{Guyver}}''[=*cough*=].
* FishOutOfTemporalWater
* GainaxEnding: If someone can tell us [[spoiler:what Gawl did at the end]], by all means, say so. The anime won't
** Okay then... [[spoiler: Gawl got his generator core ripped out, but was obviously OnlyMostlyDead and used his overload of power to open a rift in time and space... somehow. Future!Koji realised that since Gawl was directly linked to space and time that he could control the exit point of the time hole, or even restructure reality however he wanted. But, since he had no time at all to think of a new world, he just reset the world to how it was when they arrived in 2007, either exactly as it was but with everyones RippleEffectProofMemory intact, or without anything to do with Generators or Kubare so that they could live normal lives. The anime doesn't give a clear indicator as to which. Confusing, but not [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion End of Evangelion]].]]
* GeneticEngineeringIsTheNewNuke
* IdiotHero: Gawl, just Gawl.
* ImprobableHairstyle: [[http://www.sleepisfortheweak.org/pics/gawl/natsume.jpg Natsume's hair]] looks like she piled strawberry dessert whip on her head and swirled the front into what can only be called 'headboobs'.
* LargeHam: Vic as Gawl. '''''I'M MOPPIN'!!'''''
* LukeIAmYourFather: [[spoiler: Natsume is the biological mother of Ryo, Koji, and Gawl.]]
* {{Narm}}:
-->'''Ryo:''' "Did you see that? That girl was ''riding a bicycle''!"
-->'''The audience:''' ''[[WesternAnimation/{{Animaniacs}} Tourist]]''.
* SarcasticConfession
* SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong
* StableTimeLoop: Stable, but not exactly simple. The sole country in the future, Kubere, has gone back in time to change history in their favor, as have the three heroes to thwart Kubere, and it's reached a point where Kubere's development is dependent on the research of an amnesiac future soldier flung back in time and recreating their technology in search of his past.
* [[spoiler:TheSlowPath]] [[spoiler: The Professor is Future!Ryo. Ryuko Saito's assistant is Future!Koji. In the present. Which is actually the past. Yes.]]
* SuperPrototype: Gawl is a prototype Phase 4 Generator [[spoiler: and the basis for all the Generator research in the future. Ryuko Saito is the only Phase 5 Generator.]]
* TransformationSequence
* {{Tsundere}}: Masami.
* WakeUpGoToSchoolSaveTheWorld: Justified -- the trio join the university so they can investigate it freely.
* WearingAFlagOnYourHead: Subverted: Masami's trademark [[UsefulNotes/{{Britain}} Union Jack]][[IncrediblyLamePun et]] may have significance beyond 'it looked cool'... but I doubt it.
* {{Zeerust}}
