The Magician and The Great Detective of the West take the Stage!note

Kaito Kid: I have one piece of advice for you. There are some mysteries in the world best left alone.
Conan Edogawa: Yeah, it might be best to leave this particular mystery a mystery.
Kaito Kid: Then can you solve this mystery, great detective? Why did I show up as Shin’ichi Kudō and help you, a dangerous foe?

Detective Conan: The Last Wizard Of The Century is the 3rd Detective Conan Theatrical Film in the franchise. It was directed by Kenji Kodama, written by Kazunari Kouchi, produced by both Masahito Yoshioka and Michihiko Suwa and scored by Katsuo Ono. It was released on April 17, 1999.

Kaito Kid announces to the police that he intends to steal the Russian Imperial Easter Egg, which is currently being held in Osaka. As Conan purses his rival, he soon discovers there is more to this case than simply stopping a robbery.

Trailer

The Last Wizard Of The Century provides examples of:

  • Battle Amongst the Flames: Conan final confrontation with Scorpion happens in armory of the burning Yokosuka Castle.
  • Big Bad: Climatically, the professional killer Scorpion was Seiran Hoshi, who has been tracking down the treasures of the Romanov dynasty due to believing Rasputin rightfully owned them and thus was her birthright, attacked Kaito Kid for the Memories Egg, killed two people because she thought they found out about her identity, and attempted to kill Kogoro and his daughter Ran because Kogoro insulted Rasputin.
  • Big Damn Heroes: As Seiran Hoshi is about to execute Conan, Kaito Kid’s playing card comes flying through the room and knocks the gun out of her hands.
  • I Owe You My Life: Downplayed. Kid doesn’t even state it in the movie, but the reason he impersonates Shin’ichi at the end is because Ran helped his pigeon and he merely returned the favour.
  • Significant Anagram: Seiran Hoshi's name, if read in Chinese, is "Chinglan Pusu". Converting that to Japanese kana makes it "Chinra Pusu", an anagram of "Rasupuchin" - Rasputin.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: After his motorcycle crashes, Hattori tells Conan to go on ahead before completely disappearing from the film.
