Alternative Character Interpretation / Alien Abduction Role Play

Go To

  • Did Kyra intentionally fed herself to Acktreal, apparently believing that Tori's corpse wouldn't be enough to calm her down?
  • When Subject 50499-A pressured Ackt into engaging in mouthplay with them, how much of a role did it really play in the subsequent feral episodes? Would the crew have been fine had they not have done that, or would have it only delayed the inevitable if they listened to Ackt's concerns about doing so?
  • Did Subject 50499-A really fall in love with her, or did they just flirt with her in an attempt to survive? If so, did they later develop genuine feelings for Ackt the more time they spent together?
  • Subject 50499-A admitted to Ackt that they had low self-esteem, and outright told Victoria that they were suicidal. Do they secretly hope that Ackt goes insane on them and devours them?
  • When Ackt becomes aware of a crewmember's sabotage attempts and angrily demands to go to the camera room with Subject 50499-A, Tori expresses some interest in going with her. Is it her displaying some level of understanding on why Ackt acted the way she did with her, with the potential for reconciliation had Evianporial not murdered her?
  • There are several subtle hints that the alien's initial superiority complex over humanity is more or less completely unfounded. Their initial classification of humanity as a potential livestock species was an egregious, almost inexcusable mistake, and even something as simple as naming new species is an extremely complicated affair, as even Ackt admits that humanity does a better job at it. The question is, how bad are these problems that plague Caridal's government? Corruption, incompetence, etc?
    • What's more, Acktreal admits that their standard for sapience is not based on the capacity for moral agency, nor for deep, abstract thought, but on how the species treats each other. Judging by how the aliens themselves don't treat each other very well once the chips are down, and even reserved an entire planet as a criminal dumping ground, this could be seen as an exceptionally egregious case of Moral Myopia.
    • This only becomes more blatant in Part 14 when it's revealed that a very similar species to humans, an invasive species on Sefquin, was used as a hormonal drug in order to control and subdue the Enxion race.
    • Earlier than that, Acktreal admits that she was often mistreated for being a carnivore as a kid, and especially for not strictly adhering to the guidelines when dealing with herbivore species. Racism is alive and well in the aliens' society, so it's quite baffling that aliens would look down on humans for being racist. To their credit, they also sited a similarity that humanity had to aforementioned livestock species, but that still doesn't make things much better..
    • As elaborated on by Eravin Aumbra, this specism isn't without reason. Carnivores are often heavily biased in favor of new species being graded as livestock, which in turn causes the standards for sapience being placed way too high just to satisfy them.
  • Was Hiboritch's actions in episode 13 motivated by guilt for both not trying to stop Evianporial due to the latter being larger and for invertedly getting Kyra killed due to his failure to sterilize the blood on him set off Acktreal and not wanting to lose anyone else as a result?
  • When Subject 50499-A wakes up in the hospital, and is told the reason why humanity was at first marked for livestock use, were the aliens grasping at straws then, desperately trying to come up with a good excuse? Their reason reason (humanity bore an uncanny resemblance to another livestock species that had since gone extinct on Sefquin) directly contradicts what Acktreal told the human earlier, and also brings up the fringe logic on why the aliens would be so dumb to willingly eat a species that bore a resemblance to that which they knew for a fact had dangerous chemicals in it. They were probably frantically looking for another excuse, because by that point, the human would not accept the previous excuse that Ackt gave them (humans don't connect well with each other and constantly fight each other) because the aliens aren't any better in that regard, and even the human could come to this conclusion merely through observing all the bullshit that went down on the ship. Ackt does tell the human that the other aliens are practically in panic mode over the horrific mistake they made, thus making this theory plausable. Implying that it was not due to how humanity had a difficult time getting along with each other, nor because they bore a strong resemblance to a livestock species used as a biological weapon against enxions, but purely because of arrogance and Moral Myopia on the aliens' end.
    • Confirmed in the spinoff with Eravin. This is actually a major point of contention between carnivores and herbivores/omnivores, the latter are far less biased against new species and more likely to judge them on similar standards to what humans would.
  • Would Eravin Aumbra make a better R9 researcher than Ackt? Her reaction, upon realizing that the Astronaut is actually of an unknown, new species, is genuine happiness and wide-eyed curiosity, an attitude far more conducive to the scientific process than Ackt's borderline sociopathy that she tries (unsuccessfully) to pass off as "logical" and "unemotional." Even when she mistakes the Astronaut for a pirate at first, she immediately assumes that the astronaut is another sapient creature (thus, her equal), contrasting with Ackt's disturbing lack of regard for lesser species.
