"It's nice when things end with a bow on the top, isn't it Jack? It's nice when things end with a bow... on the top..."
Editor Wilbur Soot

The Editor Wilbur ARG is an Alternate Reality Game, detailing the story of Editor Wilbur, who reaches out for help through edited Minecraft videos.

On the 10th of December 2018, Youtuber JackSucksAtLife received an email from a man named Wilbur Soot, who showed interest in becoming his new video editor. Intrigued, Jack sent back some raw footage for Wilbur to edit, and filmed himself reviewing the footage. It seemed normal at first, until it randomly cut to a poorly shot video of Wilbur in a decrepit old house, asking for help. It only got stranger from there...

Thus far, the ARG has gone unsolved. Wilbur has said that fans have all the clues, but that nobody has put the story together yet.

The playlist of all the videos can be found here. This document details everything that has been discovered so far. The subreddit can be found here.

The Editor Wilbur ARG contains examples of:

  • Arc Words: "I'm so cold."
  • Blatant Lies: In his initial email to Jack, Wilbur claims to have invented keyframingnote  and 2 of the 6 strings on a guitar.
  • Dead Man Writing: Played with. In his final video, Wilbur says that "this version" of him will be dead. The person Wilbur Soot is still alive, it's the character of Editor Wilbur that has died.
  • Entry Point: Wilbur reaches out for the potential player's help by means of edited Minecraft videos on Youtube.
  • Full-Name Basis: Wilbur consistently refers to Jack as "Jack Massey Welsh SucksAtLife".
  • Irony: Wilbur repeatedly pokes fun at Jack for only making Minecraft-content. About a year later, Wilbur would become one of the most well-known Minecraft-Youtubers and streamers on the platform. Something that has certainly come to his attention.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: In his final video, Wilbur starts trying to explain everything that has happened... And then straight up disappears mid-sentence.
  • Mood-Swinger: Later on in the series, Wilbur starts flip-flopping between aggressive mania and subdued depression. This is signified by his glasses - with the glasses on, he speaks in a very quiet, monotone voice, and barely moves, with the glasses off he becomes very animated, his voice becomes much livelier, and his behavior much more aggressive.
  • Mood Whiplash: The first video of the series starts off light-hearted, with Jack laughing at the strange email from Wilbur, followed by a genuine review of the editing job Wilbur did for him. Then the video cuts to Wilbur in a dimly lit room, begging for help, while Jack watches in frightened confusion.
  • Mythology Gag: The people at the start of "The Final Editor Wilbur Video" expressing concern over Wilbur are all members of SootHouse.
  • Serial Escalation: Related to the Arc Words, Wilbur's clothing seems to signify he keeps getting colder. In the first video, despite being in a seemingly unheated room, Wilbur is only wearing a long-sleeved T-shirt. Slowly, he starts putting on warmer clothes and more and more layers, until in the final video he's wearing a winter coat, scarf and cap, and still says he's colder than he's ever been in his life.
