7: Instant Contrived Romance, Just Add Water

In contrast to the image, and the female narrator's warning to "be careful," John is shown staring contemplatively at Jane as she walks away. After a moment, though, he decides to offer her flowers, and she gratefully accepts them, but says it's her first day on the job, and she doesn't know when her lunch break is (Never mind that she shouldn't know whether she'll have a job). John's confident that "she's weakening," and promises to wait for her in the parking lot. She protests that he's "crazy" and he says "About you? Yes" and asks her to give him a chance.

Jane asks for his work number and offers to call him, but he grows worried and tries to get out of it, thinking she's trolling for financial data. He then lies and says he's a representative, and Jane says that her boss, Mark Thresher, is an account rep. John claims to know Thresher, and says they had a drink together in the same club, but they work in different offices, since John has his own office. He then gets her to call him at eight, and she then takes her leave as John says that she's "perfect," before correcting himself to say she has perfect timing.

With Jane mere yards away, John breaks out into an impromptu dance number, entirely in still images. He then puts his leather jacket on and decides to check his horoscope. He then angsts about what he'll do if she doesn't call, deciding to put his number on her windshield and skip work, which is quite a bit of emotional investment in someone he's just met.

The interview happens. If you saw Installment 5, you'll know what happens: the job is cancelled and Jane isn't hired. So now, we're up to the same choices as in there.

For "Thresher finds a job for Jane after all", go to Installment 9
For "Turn poor Jane away", go to Installment 10
For "The hairball takes advantage of the situation" go to Installment 11 (Note: you must be 18 or older to view this)
