Ribbon Warrior Chapter 6: The Fog of War

Rin starts to tell Shizuka that it's about to rain, before being distracted by Shizuka's legs. Shizuka is confident in the weather being to their advantage, believing that the heavens are on their side. Meanwhile, the crowd is starting to feel apprehensive, while Anchovy says tankery is best in the rain. Alisa invites Anchovy, Pepperoni (Incidentally, I have to wonder why Carpaccio has not appeared so far in this spinoff) and Endo onto her jeep, so that they can watch tankathlon on the field, an up close and personal, but also extremely dangerous, vantage point. The jeep tips over backwards just before they set out.

Asparagus views the map, declaring that Shizuka has no idea what tankery is all about, and will take the bait, with the BC side serving as bait. The BC tankers' reactions are split; one is annoyed at being used as bait, while the other sees it as chance to see some action and see Shizuka again, even on the field of battle.

Meanwhile, Shizuka and Rin set up the tank to look like one of the BC side's R35s, with Shizuka confident that she'll win.

Alisa and Anchovy examine the match with binoculars, seeing that one side is going to search and destroy, with Alisa reminded of her own tactics. Pepperoni suggests that "the cardboard strategy" would work, but Anchovy says it failed against Oarai. As Endo looks on, confused, the tankery practitioners conclude that whatever Shizuka's doing isn't tankery.

The leader of the BC side orders her subordinates to pay attention to their surroundings, unaware that Centipede Team has infiltrated their ranks until they see one tank too many. As Centipede Team strikes, Asparagus, still confident that her plan is working, commits her forces to the attack. Centipede Team remains incognito, and the forces are thrown into panic, engaging in friendly fire. The BC side accuses the Freedom side of having set them up, and Freedom accuses BC of throwing their lot in with the enemy. Asparagus' demanding that they focus on the enemy falls on deaf ears, as she mentally complains about the bad blood between the sides without acknowledging her role in exacerbating it.

Alisa mentions Von Klausewitz's theory on friction, which is why strategies never turn out as they do on paper. Anchovy says that friendly fire is unusual in tankery practice, but this has turned into a civil war.

Meanwhile, Centipede Team is confident that things are going "just as planned," with their recon having uncovered information about the factions between the enemies, and the commander's own role in exacerbating it.

Asparagus, infuriated of all the setbacks, and not wanting friendly fire to harm the reputation of her school or tankery, orders the tanks to turn on their lights, enabling them to tell friend from foe even in the darkness. With that, Asparagus is able to learn Centipede's position, and realizes that its muzzle is pointed at her. Shizuka then fires a shot at Asparagus, but it's not clear whether the shot succeeded in defeating her.

Unfortunately, that's all of Ribbon Warrior that has been scanlated as of this writing, so I'll move on to the one manga spinoff I haven't covered.

Next Installment: Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu!

Valiona,

Incidentally, I have to wonder why Carpaccio has not appeared so far in this spinoff

She appeared in the first chapter of Ribbon Warrior but no speaking lines.

"but it's not clear whether the shot succeeded in defeating her" Short-range direct hit on a tank (AMC 35) with maximum armor thickness of 25mm with a gun (Type 94 37mm) able to penetrate 40mm at 500m (and 20mm at 1Km...) I'd say it's painfully clear it did suceed.

Jamibu,

I see. Still, that's more of a cameo than an actual appearance.

erana,

That's true, although we didn't see the white flag pop up. It reminds me a little of the Type 89 taking a hit at the end of Episode 9, and just barely pulling through at the beginning of the next episode.

re, MLLSD, last chapter (being typeset as I write this) is so unusual you might want to start by it, as it's the only chapter so far to feature tank combat. Among other things
