Part 3: King for a Day

Rika: Welcome back!

Previously, we had our Exposition Chapter (no, seriously), as we're introduced to our protagonist: Mykan Zodiac. Also, the villain, Ebenezer. And lots of "fun with ripping off plots, even those before their time" were had by all.

So let's continue on with...

(click!)

Chapter 3: Rangers of the Past: Part Two

We get a recap on what happened, and apparentally, Mykan's last name was changed from "Zodiac" to "Scarlet". Yeah, I have no idea, either.

I'd like to point out that, yes, there are a lot of spelling errors in this thing, as well as grammatical stuff. Granted, the only really nice thing I can truly say that it isn't as eye-burningly blatant like it was on Naruto Veangance Revelaitons, but still.

So let's go forth!

We fade into Pennsylvania, 1776. Yep, we're now in the Liberty's Kids world!

Allow me to explain, in fuller detail, what this show is, for those of you who haven't watched it. Liberty's Kids is one of the shows that used to air on PBS (or your local equivalent). Basically, it's set in the Revolutionary War, and it teaches kids about the origins of the U.S.A. And, as you would imagine, I'm pretty big on historical fiction stuff.

(...granted, I haven't watched much of the show, but still.)

Anyway, we see one of the protagonists, James, who's writing a story about the strange flashes. Coincidence?! Naaaaaah...

Moses asks James if he won some sort of bet, but he tells him that Sarah and Henri are asking eyewitnesses. However, Ben Franklin tells the two to settle down, and they do.

...that is, until James mentions the Yellow Ranger's morpher, even revealing it. You see, he found the "bracelet" when he was outside, getting the milk. COINCIDENCE?!

Oh, and it gets really better. He tells them that when he wore it, he saw a yellow flash, and I quote, he "heard a strange voice that said something strange". Yep, we're facing a bit more of one of my favorite pet peeves in fanfiction: FUCKING REPETITION!

...there's going to be a lot more of that, isn't there?

Anyway. Turns out that Moses, too, has the same strange bracelet! Only his is green-colored, and he mentions a bit more about the DNA thing. This surprises Ben, who quips that he hasn't seen anything like that before. Yes, the guy who once, as the legend goes, tried to capture lightning by flying a kite and hooking up a key or some shit.

(Rika sighs)

(in Osaka, Japan...)

(Mao and Ayumi, the first of the teams, is trying to find any sort of suspicious activity there)

Mao: It feels really weird, being here.

Ayumi: What makes you say that?

Mao: You wouldn't think that the monster attacks would be that close to home. You'd think it would be safe, you know?

Ayumi: ...yeah...

Mao: C-come on, let's head further.

(Ayumi turns around, seeing something odd in a bookstore)

Ayumi: Hey, Mao? Take a look at this!

Mao: ...eh?

Ayumi: ...isn't that a book about all the different Sentai series?

Mao: Yeah, I see!

Ayumi: Call me crazy, but I think we should look, see if there's anything tampered with!

Mao: ...you honestly think anyone would be that insane to change reality?

Ayumi: Well, I don't know. I have a feeling that this may be something more than just Yui forgetting about Gokaiger just because.

Mao: ...you're right. Stranger things have happened before.

(Ayumi nods, and she purchases the book. When they head off...)

(as the former Dekaranger actress begins to read "The History of Super Sentai", they hear people screaming)

You think it is?!

Ayumi: Maybe. (nods) Let's check it out!

(Ayumi places the book in the Bag of Holding, and they both rush to the scene)

Rika: In the British Isles, we see Ebenezer waking up, realizing where he is. Specifically, well...you should know this already. This amazes him, and it turns out, his computers are still together...and, I shit you not, the room still has electricity. I'm sorry, but how in the hell would it still have that?

Ebenezer wonders just how he can get back to the present, but there's just one thing he realizes. Namely, he can act upon his wishes to alter the past. Well, goodie! Hey, Ebenezer, Ransik just called, even he thinks the plan isn't going to work!

Ebenezer: "No one will ever see me as just a chump again, I'll be one of the good guys, maybe even make the British the most famous in the world."

...yeah, I think, Ebenezer, that there are several other people who's doing just that. The Beatles, Adele, Ellie Goulding, and to some extent, the Spice Girls...not to mention a whole slew of other British pop superstars.

...what? Not that type of famous British people? Screw you, it still counts to me!

Back in Pennsylvania, we see the other two main characters, Sarah and Henri. They're returning home, but there's just one problem. Namely, after Henri mentions something about eyewitnesses, he and Sarah bicker for a bit. Seriously. This is probably because I haven't seen much of Liberty's Kids, but is Sarah really kinda bitchy like that? Or is it just her flanderized?

When they still bicker, the buggy hits a rock, causing their backpacks to tumble out. They grab them, only to find that—wouldn't you know it?—there are two more bracelets, one pink, another blue!

...seriously. I swear to God, is the entire fanfic going to be cliched like this? If not ripping off more shit otherwise?

Henri swats a mosquito off the bracelet, causing the DNA to be locked like this. And yes, they still argue. Oy.

Back to the print shop, Henri hits the pink jewel on Sarah's bracelet-morpher-thing, and it locks her DNA. So...apparentally, if you wear the damn thing when someone else hits a jewel, it locks the wearer's DNA, instead of a handprint?

(Rika scratches her head)

I got nothing!

So as they discuss their findings, Ben prints out both stories. Turns out that not only was there light on the British Isles, but also another on the battleground. And this gets better. Sarah's dad has captured someone!

(in a sarcastic voice) Gee, I wonder who it could be.

And even though the letter says that she and James can come along, Sarah decides to go herself. Seriously. To her credit, Ben tells James that she has a point. Oh, and after that bit of nonsense, we get this.

"Well actually, these days, James and Sarah did have secrets on missing out on their little squabbles and stuff, and Sarah even missed James' cocky attitude."

...yep. We have our shipping! Fucking joy.

Back to the British Isles, or whatever (it doesn't really say), Ebenezer is hard at work trying to create something. Oh, and they thought he's a witch, because of the way he dressed, or the fact that he's a bit cuckoo.

Yeah.

So with a machine and a special formula, he creates 20 wax redcoats with memory chips. Yeah...and he creates a mud monster with a virus formula. Ebenezer decides that if the people can't worship him for the misunderstood boy he is, he'll take them by force. Yawn.

(meanwhile...)

(Mao and Ayumi arrive to where they heard the commotion. They search around...)

Ayumi: What happened?

(one of the citizens shake in fear)

Citizen #1: A-are you?

Ayumi: I'm not a monster...we're here to help!

Mao: Wasn't there a monster here?

Citizen #2: A green-colored one? Y-yes! He ran away after taking some books!

Ayumi: Where did he go?

Citizen #2: That way! (points to the left)

Mao: Thanks! (to Ayumi) Come on!

Ayumi: RIGHT!

(the two ladies run, and Citizen #1 looks at Citizen #2)

Citizen #1: ...I can't say I recognize that woman before.

Citizen #2: Her? That's Ayumi! From Dekaranger! And the other's Mao, from Gokaiger!

Citizen #1: ...Deka...Ranger?

(if only anyone knew what's truly going on...)

Rika: So! After the end of Act 1, we fade back to the location where the mysterious person's held. Sarah and her dad, Samuel, reunite, and after talking, she's able to see...Mykan.

...I think I'm noticing another problem. Namely, the switch from first-person perspective to third-person perspective. With the second chapter, and yes, this one as well, how the hell would Mykan know what happened with Ebenezer and the Liberty's Kids characters? Does he have cameras installed everywhere somehow?

The short answer: Stop trying to ask so many questions, it's confusing.

Sarah realizes that Mykan's no witch, and they introduce themselves. And yes, Mykan's last name is once again Zodiac. What's up with the "Scarlett" thing, then?

As they talk about where Mykan came from, and yes, the revelation that he did go to the past, he recognizes the bracelet Sarah's wearing. He tells her about how he made it and three others, and then...they hear gunshots. Samuel rushes in, tells them what's going on, and Mykan asks to be untied. When that happens, the dad says that he has had enough of Mykan's lies, and he closes the tent, rushing to his own with his daughter.

...also, once again, just how would Mykan know about Ebenezer's plans to take over the past? And why the hell is "WAX" capitalized like that as if it's a major thing? We already know they're made of wax, so...

This chapter ends with Mykan realizing that there's a way to break out of the ropes. However, the fake Redcoats are forcing the real ones to really reconsider, and they are aiming at Samuel and Sarah.

...

(Rika sighs)

Tune in next time for more ridiculous bullshit.

What will Rika respond to the next chapter? Will the All-Stars V2.0 manage to defeat the monsters in time? And is it really a change in reality as Ayumi suspects?!

This is probably because I haven't seen much of Liberty's Kids, but is Sarah really kinda bitchy like that? Or is it just her flanderized?

I wouldn't be surprised either way. I recalled her in the show to be a tad bitchy in the regards that Lisa Simpson or Brian Griffin were bitchy (as in she was usually the one standing on top of a soapbox) though it's probably my imagination. And considering Mykan's track record, it could just be flanderization.

We have lost them, but we have captured someone much stranger looking, and now have him as a prisoner. It is our belief that he is an adversary from a world not of our own.

Tell me, how did you jump to that conclusion? Apple of Eden, maybe? ... No, that'd give him too much credit... It would be awesome if the events of this fanfic caused the rise of King Washington.

Though it could be that Mykan told him he came from the future and that translated to "world not of our own".

"You have summed me My, Lord?"

SUMMONED! IT'S FUCKING SUMMONED!

Sarah did take a few more steps. "Hey… you're no witch, you're a young man." She said to me.

"Well of course… what did you think I was, some sort of a zombie?" I asked.

{urges himself not to make a Madoka reference}

Who exactly is this Red Ranger

Gee, maybe if you didn't show the opening, that would have been a surprise. Even In Space had to hide the new villains and red ranger for a bit with their opening.

@ Psyga: Ah. That explains things. And I wouldn't be surprised if it's flanderization, either.

And I have no idea how they got to that conclusion, either.

As for the "summoned" thing...already covered entirely with the "misspellings" thing. Finally, with the Red Ranger thing...yeaaaaah. Even though I've skipped the "next time on" thing (for a reason: it's just not worth spoiling the next chapters, especially since I'm going into it blind), that's just...

And I'm really sorry for the lack of effort in these installments. Especially with this one, it seems a bit...rushed. (Which is because it was.)

Liberty's Kids!? Seriously, how old are these people?

@Hamburger Time: According to ED's entry on him, he was born in 1986. This fanfic was published around 2006, so he was around 20.
