Part 7: Belly of The Whale

Okay, let’s cut to the chase. EPICNESS! IS! HAPPENING!

Even the burning’s gotten epic.

ONE MORE DAY BEFORE THE STORM! (Do I follow where she goes?)

See what I mean?

Seriously, this is like what the filmmakers did with the Twilight books, they took the wasted awesome from it and gave it the epic treatment it deserved. Oh, I forgot. There’s some scenes where the Dark Master, the Big Bad that was mentioned throughout the film, is seen, though only as a shadow... Huh... villain that is a Flat Character in shadow form... Hopefully he doesn’t garble about crystals. Jesse even gets saved by the Giant Troll Janice. So... Defeat Means Friendship after all... Even if the troll was just tickled. Would have made sense if Terrien pulled a thorn out or something but okay.

Oh, and yeah, why don’t you bring that plot point of the river swelling up some more? It’s not like we’re already putting the pieces together... Oh! That’s why they made it look like a fantasy. To get the wrong minded children into this. No one who is Genre Savvy would be able to cry since they can see it coming a mile away.

So Jesse returns the keys. And then... the fateful day. You know what I’m talking about. That day. The day where everything changes... The Wham Episode. The part where everything, and I mean everything, goes to hell. I’ve been building up to it, even spoiling it a few times, so by now, you must know what I’m talking about. If not, all the pieces will fall into line.

Ms. Edmunds calls Jesse and offers him to go to the museum with her. He complies, and asks his mother, who is so flat of a character that even her answers are flat “mmmms”. This gives him incentive to go with Ms. Edmunds. They pass by Leslie’s house and he doesn’t invite her. Remember this for later. So they go and view at the art. And there’s that whole “mind wide open” Arc Words and Ms. Edmunds tells him he can create a whole new world... even though he could do that already.

But you don’t wanna hear about that, do you? You want to hear about that, do you? Yeah. You and I have been waiting all movie for this twist of fate. This moment where we fully realize that this wasn’t the fantasy film that kids brought their parents to see. All movie, this was building up to one major revelation. This is what the entire book is about. Did you know that the author wrote this based off her son going through the loss of his friend, who was killed by lightning? With that in mind, all the pieces have come together, Will Smith jumps into the tub with his pet jellyfish, the stars have aligned and will aid in her escape, and Light Yagami had just finished writing her name.

It’s time... for buster.

Ms. Edmunds drives Jesse home and he is greeted by his family, all huddled together, with his mom running to him, giving him a crying hug. They ask where he’s been and one of his sisters puts it bluntly: they thought he was dead. When he asks what’s going on, Jack Aarons, the T-1000, gives him a bone chilling message.

Jack Aarons: Should I{shot}

{reloads} NO, GOD DAMN IT! SAY THE PROPER LINE FOR ONCE!

Jack Aarons: Your friend Leslie’s dead.

I shit you not, when he delivered that line in the theatre and I was watching it, my spine chilled. There was a massive chill in my spine. No line in the history of ever had me so rocked like that before. Kyubey’s word play didn’t have the same effect. Chrysalis’ line when revealing her true intentions to a despaired Twilight Sparkle, while shocking, didn’t have quite the same impact as this. If I had to pick a Most Triumphant Example for a Wham Line, this would be it. And that, I give a mercy point for. He explains that the rope snapped and Leslie drowned, just as the foreshadowing had predicted. Jesse calls his father a liar. Well, things are gonna get Higurashi in this house. Now you can say it, Shinji.

Shinji: LIARS! You hide behind those smiles but you intentionally keep things ambiguous!

Because that’s sort of what I think is going on with Jesse’s parents and siblings. And now we’re in the Belly of Cerebus. Things will get dark before they get better. It’s a storm after all... Oh, and the T-1000’s so strong, he is able to open a door that is blocked with a wooden cabinet. All while he gives his son the love and attention that he never gave him before this untimely death. Is it alright if I start singing Cat’s in the Cradle? Because this dynamic’s what it’s seriously reminding me of.

The next morning...

Mary: Jess, your father and I thought we'd go to the Burkes today and pay our respects. Just the three of us.

Jesse: Paying what?

Angst? What Angst?”. Now I know he took mood pills. Oy vey. I think I’m gonna have to end the part here, because there might be a whole lot I have to talk about in those last two parts.
