Cooking! Sun!... Fun?

06/11 Sa

Cloudy

After an uneventful day at school, Yu decided to work at the Daycare on the hill overlooking town, Nigi Mitama helping him to brace for the horrors sure to come...

After barely surviving a day of being pulled in all directions by people half his age, Yu waited to see Yuuta off. Eri offered to get him a nice dinner, but he rebelled and ran off...

Eri sighed.

"I'm coming later next time. I even left in the middle of a show, just to be one time... I'm fed up with this treatment."

She hung her head and sighed again...

"I should have know better than to try... We're not related, so there's nothing I can do about it..."

She's still stuck in a single mindset, huh? I can't really say I know what she's dealing with, but, at the same time...

"So, you can't ever love Yuuta, huh?"

Eri fell silent for a while...

"They say that when a woman starts breastfeeding, her maternal instincts awaken. It's true, I saw it on television."

Oh, shit. She's one of THOSE TV watchers.

"So, my maternal instinct towards him is shut away, especially since I've only known him for six months. There's nothing I can do. Fate has determined that we'll forever be distant."

I've only been here since April, and I've found my little sister. No excuse.

"Well, Yu-kun... Speaking of fate, have you heard this?: Your entire life is determined before you were even born. We're just like little robots, following the programing our creator made for us."

That's just ducking responsibility. And... Who said this? And what's their address? I need to file a slander case on the behalf of all humanity. They'll need to see the letters.

"So, whenever anything happens, there's nothing you can do about it... It was already decided for you. Doesn't that make you feel better about everything? Isn't it a wonderful idea?"

"No."

"But it was on TV. He's a really popular speaker. It's good to have everyone like you."

Define 'everyone'. As is, it'd could include crazy cultists and people who rub themselves in raw meat because it makes them think of their mother.

"Besides, I think everyone's entitled to their own ideas..."

Don't frown at me, you're the one who's setting up barriers.

"Well, I was so intrigued, I went to see a lecture by that speaker, too. I was moved to tears... I was so relived to know that there's a higher power!"

This is sounding more and more like that weird internet cult from January a year back... Those jerks were everywhere for a month, then they all just vanished...

Eri sighed...

"There really isn't much to do when you live this far from the city... All I have is TV and the internet. You can buy things over the net now! It's much more convenient. In fact, I'm having trouble staying in shape, anymore. But honestly... I just want to go back to the city."

"Look, this'll sound harsh, but... Just let it go..."

"Yeah, I gave up on that a long time ago..."

Eri smiled and nodded, then looked up at Yu.

"I really tell you a lot of personal things. Please, don't tell Yuu-kun... Or the other mothers."

"Why would I?"

Eri smiled and thanked Yu. As she turned and left after Yuuta, Yu saw a fourth Temperance card appear in front of him...

That night, Yu decided to work as a tutor...

I hope Shu's not too mad at me for taking so long to show up again.

After a very relaxed study session, Yu sat down to tea with Shu's mother. She brought up how highly rated the online shop she bought the cheesecake she shared with him was...

"First in everything, just like my Shu-chan!"

Shu complained about the compliments, but his mother brushed him off. She talked about how, if he went to a good college, he'd be set for life...

If he takes exactly the right field that matches up exactly with the economy at that time, possibly.

After Shu had shown his mother out of his room, he asked Yu a few questions...

"... If I get into a good college, am I really 'set'?"

"Well, it depends, Shu. I don't know."

Shu talked a bit more about his future...

"... Raison d'etre. You know what that means?"

"Of course."

"I'm surprised. Well, it makes sense, since you're three grades above me."

Shu smiled and laughed, as the conversation took a more casual turn. Yu had opted to stick around off the clock to finish an unfinished question... Right as he set out the door, Yu saw a second Tower card...

Yu got a call in the morning...

"Hello, this is Yukiko. I'm sorry to call you so suddenly. Do you have time to hang out today?"

Well, it's been a while since we've hung out...

"Sure. Let's meet up later."

"Okay!"

Yukiko and Yu hammered out a place to meet up for the day...

Huh. It looks decent...

Yu stared at the handmade boxed lunch Yukiko had handed him, as they sat on the bench under the pavilion near the Samegawa Floodplain...

"It came out well, so I packed it up. Try it."

... But that smell. It's so... Pungent. Yikes.

"Right. Let's eat!"

"Yeah. You go on ahead."

Oh, crap.

Despite his misgivings, Yu cut off a piece of the...

Omelette-looking... Thing...

With his chopsticks and put it in his mouth.

Soft... Huh... Ouch. There's like a rock or something. And now it's like... Burnt, but raw, too. Oh, wow, this is awful. Like hospital food someone sat on. I'm scared I'll throw up...

Yu barely forced himself to down the food, barely gasping through it...

Yukiko looked at the ground.

"... You're not about to tell me how delicious that was, are you?"

She really tried, that's the worst part.

"Well, there's always next time."

I'll eat her food again, I guess. But I'm not finishing this crap.

"I-I suppose... Thank you."

At that moment, Nanako passed by, on her way to a friend's house.

"Oh, what're you doing?"

Yukiko turned towards Nanako and explained the situation...

"Oh, well, can I try the next time, even if I can't try this one?"

"Nanako-chan... Yeah, absolutely!"

"Yay! I'm rooting for you!"

"Nanako-chan..."

Yu piped in...

"I'm kinda having fun, too, Yukiko."

"I'm glad to hear that."

With that, Nanako returned to walking to her friend's home, and Yukiko thanked Yu for the day. As the two of them started the walk home, Yu saw a fourth Priestess card appear before him...

Well, if there's food around, I may as well be nice and return the lunch favor to Yukiko... Even if today's food was awful.

Yu smashed up a few boiled potatoes and tossed in some cubed-up ham and cooked onions into them...

Wow, this looks like some tasty potato salad. Hope she likes it.

Guess I leave the jacket off today, huh. But I like the winter uniform better...

Yu adjusted the collar of his school shirt and readied himself for the first day of wearing the summer uniform...

Yu asked Yukiko to join him for lunch on the roof.

This salad's pretty starchy, but it's very lean, so I think she'll like it...

She's still wearing red. That jacket's kinda cute.

"Oh, wow! It's really good! The flavor is excellent, and the presentation is great, too. Do you want to work as a chef at the inn?"

Yukiko laughed.

"... I'm just kidding. Though... If you really wanted to, you'd be more than welcome..."

"I'm glad you enjoyed it so much."

I really hope she isn't taking it as a romantic gesture... That'd be awkward...

"A sprint is an anaerobic exercise. Correct?"

"Urgh- Correct! Fine, then, Narukami-san! You only have to do five laps today. But all the rest of you, you're still running thirty!"

Mr. Kondo... Do you spend all your time watching Eighties sports movies or something?

After school, Yu decided to do some looking in the Shopping District...

"Are the police handling this investigation or what!? They're always a step behind... Don't ya think?"

Crap, fish-eyes spotted me.

"I disagree."

Dojima seems to following about as well as someone with maybe half the clues can, frankly.

"Tch, you really think that? Naive, aren't ya?... Hey, don't you think that Morooka guy over at your school is pretty suspicious? He's got a rep for being strict, but he's pretty arrogant, too. I bet that deep down, he's got some crazy-ass grudges. And teachers rank pretty low on society's totem pole, y'know. Who the hell are they to teach anything about society, huh?"

"I think I left my oven on. I gotta go."

Yu opted to escape via the bus to the Daycare on the hill overlooking town, Nigi Mitama bracing him for what was to come...

After another afternoon of being nearly torn apart from every angle, Yu waited a little longer for Eri to show up. Yuuta insisted that he would rather stay and play Yu more. Eri responded with barely-concealed contempt, then left Yuuta with Yu...

Wow. She's rather upset. Like she said last time, I guess...

".... Well, Yuuta, you want me to walk you home?"

As Yu and Yuuta crossed the Samegawa Floodplain, they spotted Eri, sitting on the bench under the pavilion...

Yuuta tried to explain some of his feelings about Eri, and how he felt like she hated him. He stood on the road while Yu went up to meet with her...

Eri thanked Yu for walking Yuuta towards home...

"He looked like he was having so much fun. Of course, he wouldn't want to come home... Even if he did, it's just the two of us. He'll forget his father's face at this rate. Poor thing...

I see. So, they both think the other hates them. That's... Sad.

Eri thanked Yu for his time, then started walking home with Yuuta. As they left, Yu saw a fifth Temperance card appear before him...

That night, Yu decided to spend a few hours chatting with Dojima, as he was curious about the missing article from last time...

Dojima explained that he had found it...

"It's about Chisato... My wife. When she was killed by a hit-and-run..."

Dojima fell silent for a long while...

Oh... That's... Terrible.

"I told you before, right, Yu? About that case where we didn't have a suspect? You get it now? There's nothing more I can say about it in this house."

"Then let's go outside."

This is at least part of the reason you're never around. You're not just dropping this.

"Hah... You win."

Dojima sighed, a resigned laugh barely escaping his lips.

"Chisato... She... She was run over on her way to pick up Nanako from nursery school... It was a cold day, and there were no witnesses, so they didn't find her until much later."

That's...

"Until I got there, hours later, Nanako was all alone at the school... Waiting for a mother who would never come..."

I...

"I couldn't tell Nanako what happened to her mother. That her father, whose is to catch criminals... Couldn't find a single lead..."

Dammit...

"But I haven't given up... I'll catch the guy. I don't need a private life for that. Nanako will understand."

Yu stared at his uncle.

'This meeting is more important than your baseball game, Yu-kun. It's for your future, too, you know!'

"... That's just an excuse."

Dojima responded with shock, bit his lip and asked for Yu to go to bed.

"I'm sorry, but... Leave me alone for now. But... Thanks..."

As Yu climbed the stairs to his room, he saw a sixth Hierophant card appear before him, even as he heard the door to the deck slide shut as quickly as possible...

Yu heard some more gossip about the school trip on the way to to school...

Yu decided to spend time practicing with the Band, Phoenix helping inch him into the right mindset for it...

Wow, Ayane's way better than before...

After practice, Ayane invited Yu to go with her to the Floodplain to practice...

"It's all thanks to you, Senpai! You're the one who gave me the push I needed! Senpai... I..."

Ayane blushed and turned away for a moment.

"I'll make this a performance for both of us to be proud of! I want to make you smile as much as you've made me..."

Wow, such confidence! It's good to see her not beat herself up for once.

Yu saw Ayane off at the school gates, as a sixth Sun card appeared before him...

Nanako was bored that night...

Well, didn't think I'd have a good chance to try this again...

Yu looped a rubber band around four of his fingers, holding it so that it looked like it was only around his index and middle ones, held it in front of Nanako, then opened his hand, slipping it across two fingers.

"Oh! I saw it! I-it went like 'zoom'! Do it again! One more time!"

Yu smiled as he looped the rubber band again.

"School camp's this weekend, but don't hope for it to be fun or nothin'. It's going to be a place of education for your lazy-ass minds from screwing around all the damned time. You kids all depend on other people too much! That's why you jerk-offs have all this spare time! When I was a kid..."

Now he's whining about us having people we can depend on? What's with King Moron?

"Hanamura! What's the root of the word 'pend'? Stop smiling, and answer!"

Yosuke whispered at Yu...

"... Well, Partner? You have any idea?"

"To hang something. Like a pendant."

Yosuke relayed the answer, silently thanking Yu for saving from being berated...

"Hmph. Good work. Y'know, those two stupid bitches were fooling around and depending on others, and that's what got them 'pending' from TV antennas and telephone poles. Now then..."

Wow, that was disgusting.

Yu tried to talk to Naoki Konishi, who hadn't left as early as usual that day...

"You. I told you I hate you, remember?"

Naoki rambled a bit about how much he thought everyone pretended to care about him, when all they really wanted was to know about his sister's death...

Poor guy, getting bogged down in all that...

"So, you want to talk about the murder too, right?"

"No, that's not something I want to talk to you about."

What could you tell me that I don't know?

"Hmph. Everybody says that. And to answer the question about 'if I hate the killer'... No. Goodbye."

And with that, Naoki left...

Yu decided to spend the day with Ai, Andra bracing him for what was to come a tiny bit...

She's all panicky, all of a sudden. I wonder what's so important that we have to talk about it on the roof?

"H-hey, um... Th-thank you for that, last time..."

Oh, so she's still a little upset from then... Understandable...

"I really didn't do much."

Ai turned to face Yu, her face completely red...

"No, you did..."

Ai had been standing a ways off, but then decided to close some of the distance, so she was just out of Yu's arm's reach. She blushed even more as she approached...

"I-I'm... I'm in a weird mood. Every time I think about what happened, I can feel my heart beat faster, and I can hardly sleep at night... What should I do? I..."

Is this what it's starting to seem like?

"I think... What should I do?... I think I'm in love. It's funny, isn't it? Like... Why now? I just keep on thinking about that day. I can't stop thinking..."

Here it comes... I don't want to upset her, but..

"About Kou-kun."

... Oh.

"D-do you know if he has a girlfriend? Do you think I'm his type? O-or do you think he hates... People like me?"

"Have a little confidence. You're fun to be around."

Sometimes. Occasionally. But always interesting...

"Y-yeah... Thanks, Yu."

Ai nodded seriously...

"I-I'm not used to things like this... You're the only one I can turn to."

As Ai looked pleadingly at Yu, a fifth Moon card appeared before him...

Yea- Wait. Wait.

"C'mon, please... You'll help me, right? All I need you to do is... Ask Kou what's his type. That's it."

Don't look at me like that. you're reminding me of Nanako when I first got here.

"... No problem."

"Thank goodness... If you'd said no, I don't know what I'd do... You don't have to ask him today or anything, but... Please..."

Yu turned and left for home, as Ai stayed on the roof, looking to the sky.

That night, Yu made sure Nanako was safe at home, then took the bus to the hospital for his janitor work, Vetala aligning him very slightly towards the Devil...
After Yu finished polishing a window in the hospital hallway, he turned to head to his next destination, only to see...

An old woman in mourning garb? But why here?

"My... Excuse me..."

The old lady stared at Yu for a moment, then turned and left...

Who was that woman?

After Yu finished cleaning the next window, Sayoko found him and dragged him into an empty room...

"Nice job. You could've just slacked off, but you really work your cute little butt of, don't you?"

Stop with the innuendos. I beg you.

"So, why are you at a job like this?"

"Mostly, to have something to do... I don't need much sleep, and everything's closed up right around now."

"Hmmhmm... Still, should you really be caught up with a naughty lady like me?"

Sayoko smiled...

She's kind creepin' me out, how she's coming on like this.

"Still, you're such a poor child... I'm sure there's plenty of girls who would cry their eyes out if they saw you doing menial labor like this... Speaking of which, say, do you have a girlfriend?"

"Nope."

"Aww, that's no fun. The fact that they're taken is what makes flirting with men so interesting...."

That's cruel.

Sayoko turned away from Yu...

"Teenagers are so young... They're only ten years younger, but they seem so far away... It's like they're glittering. I feel this? What do you call it? Envy? Maybe that's..."

Desperate to reclaim youth?

"I just want to see kids like you get screwed over by life."

Oh shit. She's gonna stab me with something covered in diseases, isn't she?

Sayoko laughed as Yu flinched.

"That was a joke, of course. Half of it was, anyway..."

Back to the first theory, but... I'll exercise caution...

Sayoko edged towards Yu...

"Do you... See what I'm getting at?"

"Stop it! Every time I've been here, you-"

Sayoko just laughed.

"I keep telling you, silly, that's the kind of reaction I just find... Irresistible!"

Sayoko gave a smirk, then excused herself and left...

As Yu left himself, he saw a third Devil card appear before him...

As Yu walked towards Yasogami High, Yukiko spotted him and ran up to walk next to him.

"Hey! Good morning. The school campout starts tomorrow. We'll be in the same group, but what should we be cooking for dinner? Hey, why don't we get Chie and Yosuke to go shopping with us after school today?"

Yu nodded.

"That sounds like a plan."

Yukiko could use a few pointers, considering last time...

The four second-years all met up after school, and went to the Junes Grocery Department to buy ingredients for the campout that started the next day...

Chie and Yukiko were huddled in front of the produce, talking to each other.

"What do you put in curry again?"

Yukiko tried to list off curry vegetables to answer Chie's question.

"Carrots, potatoes, onions... Mushrooms, green peppers and... Radishes?"

"Are radishes... The same as turnips?"

Oh dear.

Chie tried to explain to Yu.

"Curry's fine, right? It's practically our national dish."

Yukiko elaborated...

"We were going back-and-forth between ramen and curry, but I thought ramen might not be enough for you guys."

But ramen's not nearly as easy to mess up, Yukiko...

Chie resumed talking with Yukiko. Chie wanted to avoid picking things Yosuke wouldn't eat, and Yukiko offered to find him, since he was getting things on another floor...

"Nah, no need."

"Oh, okay... Hey, Chie. You use potato starch for curry, right?"

"Hmm?.... O-of course you do!"

Do I intervene, and risk enraging the dragon?

"Yeah, otherwise the sauce won't thicken. Then, we'll need potato starch, and... some flour, too, right?"

They sell blocks of curry roux, girls.

"Th-there are lots of kinds of flour... Which should we get? All-purpose? Whole wheat?"

"Hm, whole wheat sounds healthy."

And gritty, Yukiko...

"Let's get that one. And... Here they are!"

Yukiko pulled a bad of skinny red vegetables from the refrigerator.

"Chili peppers! It's not curry if it isn't spicy."

"Oh, well... Let's just get everything that seems right. How about some kimchi, too, and some ground pepper!"

"There's two kinds, though. Black and white."

I need to stop them... Why won't my feet move? Oh, no. Nonono.

"Whoa! Way to go, Yukiko! The Amagi family sure knows their stuff! Let's get both, just in case."

"Oh, yeah! We'll need some special ingredients, too, to spice things up."

My mouth is glued shut, too... Is this a dream? Did I die and go to Culinary Purgatory?

"Hmm, I remember seeing something on TV about that... I think it was... Chocolate? Coffee? Yogurt? Oh, how about mint chocolate!? I love that stuff! I don't like coffee that much, though... Oh, I can drink mocha, so let's get that!"

"What about some seafood? That should make the sauce taste better!"

Get back here from whatever it is you're doing and save me, Yosuke!

Yu watched in paralyzed terror as his friends filled the shopping cart with dozens of incongruous ingredients...

That night, Yu spent some time talking with Dojima...
06/17 F

Cloudy

Yu arrived at the river with everyone else in his school. They were all almost immediately set to work...

How many cans can there be on one riverside? I've already gotten fifty of them...

Yu and Yosuke dragged themselves to the benches, and sat down at their group's table.

Yosuke and Yu agreed that the work was tough. Yosuke decided to talk about some of the worst bits of the day...

"I can't believe someone threw away an entire bike!"

"Or a big metal barrel. The Kirijo Group really does make everything, apparently."

"Dammit, litterers should have to deal with their own garbage..."

Yosuke looked towards the stove Chie and Yukiko stood over...

"Anyway, time for dinner! Man, I'm starvin'. Dude! The girls cooked just for us! Not that I expect that much outta Chie, but Yukiko's got the full tradition of the Amagi Inn behind her food! You know it's gonna be outta this world!"

He's too excited to listen to me... Well, one survivor is more than none.

"You look so into it, Yosuke. Tell you what: You can have mine, too."

"Huh? Why so generous all of a sudden? It's okay man. Just enjoy!"

Dammit. We're both doomed.

Yu overheard Yukiko and Chie talk to each other, then ladle curry onto rice.

Curry shouldn't make gurgling noises.

The girls walked over to the guys and placed a plate in front of each of them...

Chie spoke.

"Uhh... Sorry for the wait. Um..."

Chie shuffled her feet a little.

"We... Put a lot of love into it..."

And mocha. And mint chocolates. And a fistful of chili peppers.

Yosuke perked up.

"Oh yeah? That's kinda cliche, but still awesome! Okay then, chow time!"

Yosuke scooped up a spoonful of rice and curry, took a bite, and...

My god, he's collapsed!

Chie looked at Yosuke...

"H-hey?"

Yosuke suddenly threw himself to his feet, shouting.

"WHAT THE HELL IS THIS!?"

Yosuke tried to calm down a little bit.

"I mean, what kinda-"

That's an awful cough...

"Curry's supposed to be like "really spicy" or "kinda mild"... This just stinks! And it's gritty, too! It's somehow both gritty and slimy! And it's got squishy parts in it! It's so frickin' nasty I can't even swallow it!"

Chie responded bashfully.

"Well, it just didn't mix too well... But it does offer a wide variety of textures..."

"It's nauseating!"

Yosuke's tearing into them.

"C'mon! It's not that bad! That's just you're opinion! I bet Yu-kun'll think it's delicious!"

Chie and Yukiko looked at Yu...

"I'm telling you as a friend... Don't do it. I wouldn't even joke about trying that slop!"

Yosuke looked at Yu as well...

Crap... The girls are staring at me... I gotta try it, don't I?

Yu looked down at the plate of food, dug his spoon in, and took a bite...

Yu awoke, alone in the Velvet Room. Igor's voice suddenly rang out, despite the man himself being gone...

"Life is truth, and never a dream...

All souls know this from birth...

The truth is something that is chosen and grasped...

Something discovered with one's vision and will.

Only by gaining that does the seeker become truth himself, a cord that connects past and future.

But now, it seems our guest's cord has been..."

"Wake up, Partner! It'll all be okay!"

Yu awoke to all three of his friends crowding over him...

Chie and Yukiko apologized, and everyone groaned about going hungry that night...

A rather large girl was sitting nearby, eating a massive pile of curry...

Yosuke turned to face her...

"You... Wouldn't happen to have any extra curry left, would ya?"

Yosuke suddenly almost burst into tears...

"C'mon, give us some! We're begging you! We're starving to death here!"

"No way. I'm on a diet right now, so this is all that I made. It has to last me."

I try not to be mean about appearances, but geez. She's like half a whale. The back half.

Everyone confirmed with each other that, yes, tonight, the Investigation Team was going hungry...

"Awright, back to yer tents! Men's tents are this way, and the girls' tents are that way! Time you youngsters to get ta bed! It's now time for us teachers to have some boo- I mean, lights out!"

Dammit. No food tonight...

Kanji... How did you get in Yosuke and me's tent?

"Hey, guys. My teach threatened to hold me back a year if I didn't show. And the first year's tent is all quiet. It's like someone died."

Bunking with Naoki, huh?

Yosuke told Kanji he wasn't surprised, with Kanji's reputation... Kanji asked if he could stay the night, since only Yosuke and Yu were bunking in the tent, since the others had called in sick.

"So, okay if I hang out here?"

Meh. Whatever.

"Stay as long as you want. You're my friend, at least."

"Hey, you're a stand-up guy, Senpai. Don't worry, I won't make any trouble for you. They can't catch me unless we raise a ruckus."

Yosuke sighed.

"Alright, alright. You can sleep over there."

Yosuke, I'm not pleased with that way of speaking. I mean, the only guy I think he's interested in that slender kid with the nifty hat. Our chastity is safe.

Kanji protested that there was a huge rock under 'his' side of the tent. Yosuke held firm, though... The guys talked a little about school life. They all agreed Mr. Morooka was terrible.

"I heard he was even trash-talkin' those two girls that did. It was like 'It's no surprise that people who are unfaithful or run away from home meet a bad end...'"

"Damn, I can just picture that bastard saying that. He never shut up about me either when I moved here last year. Not that I really remember the specifics..."

The conversation continued, as Yosuke pulled out a bag of something and started eating it...

"... Wait a sec, what're you eating!?"

"Animal crackers."

Those can be pretty decent. Faintly vanilla, and not too sweet. Goes great with milk... Wait. Yosuke, those can't be yours...

"Those're mine! Dammit, I was pumped about finding the penguin today..."

"Penguin?"

"The secret animal cracker! You were eatin' them and and you didn't know that!?"

"A-are you serious? Well, you shoulda said something!"

"Stop blaming Kanji, Yosuke. You're at fault here."

Yosuke looked at Yu, a little taken aback.

Kanji sighed.

"Oh well..."

"This ain't gonna fill me up... Well, might as well get to sleep..."

"That's all you got to say for yourself after taking my snacks?"

In the night, Yosuke decided to talk to Kanji...

Dammit, this is why I volunteered to sleep in the middle.

"H-hey, Kanji. This is as a good a time as any to ask, so... I-I want you to be honest with us."

Crap.

"A-are you really... Y'know?"

Kanji responded, with a bit of menace and a lot more confusion in his voice...

"Am I really what... ?"

"What I mean to say is, uh... Are we gonna be safe alone with you?"

Yosuke, you asshat.

Kanji rose to his feet and started ranting at Yosuke about his manliness. Yu tried to get him to calm down, but one thing led to another, and before anyone knew it, Kanji was running to the girl's tent...

"... Nice work, Yosuke. Now he's in danger of getting himself, and, possibly, us, expelled. Because you had to say something dumb."

A short time later, Chie and Yukiko tried to get in the guy's tent. Hanako had been snoring to the point where they couldn't sleep...

"Hey, you two in there?!"

King Moron. Crap.

"We're right here, Sir. Fast asleep, Sir!"

"Don't get cute with me, Hanamura! Well, whatever. I got things to do."

Mr. Morooka left, not suspecting a thing.

"Hey, Yu? Why're you building a wall out of pillows?"

"Yosuke."

And that was answer enough for Yukiko.

06/18 Sa

Yosuke is being much more of a dip than usual.

The Investigation had been dismissed along with all the other students in the morning, so they all followed Yosuke to a small cliff near a waterfall...

Yosuke decided that the girls still owed him and Yu from last night, and so produced a pair of bikinis for them to take a dip in.

Seriously, that's creepy as hell... But They're going along with it... Dammit, what do I do here? I don't want my friends to hate me OR each other...

Yosuke insisted that he and Yu get changed. The girls returned not long after...

Huh. Considering Yosuke picked them up, those're actually pretty conservative, as far a bikinis go. And they're both pretty cute, I'll admit... I hope Yosuke's not rubbing off on me too much...

"H-hey... Stop staring at us like that..."

I need to pick my words carefully. I compliment both, I'll look like I was planning it with Yosuke. I say nothing, I look like a jerk. I compliment Yukiko, Chie'll get all protective of her. Therefore...

"You look cute, Chie."

"Huh? Sheesh... What's with you, all of a sudden?"

"Well, this sure makes up for Mystery Food X last night. C'mon, you guys gotta admit I chose some pretty great suits. Those girls might be childish on the inside, but I bet they'll grow up to be some fine-looking women."

Yosuke... You and your big mouth.

The water was very cold. The girls had shoved both Yu and Yosuke off the cliff into the water below. From the looks of it, they were doing the same to Kanji...

He got a nosebleed, huh? I wonder who it's for? And what I should say if it turns out to be...

Yu suddenly heard the sounds of a man vomiting in the distance.

Great. King Moron's puking in the water I'm in. This day has stated off... SWIMMINGLY.

Yu started the long trek down the freezing waters towards a low shore, preparing himself mentally for the walk back home. All he could do was smile to himself.

Even Narukami knows to hate those dirty Stregas.

All and all, I felt Yu's snark helped make the school trip more bearable. Eh, I never liked it personally.

Go on ahead.

Some credit would be appreciated, but not necessary. :p

Aaaaand the cult date thing has been fixed. How did I write "December" when I meant "January"? I mean, aside from being month names, the words have nothing in common. Whoops.
