In which we bite the hands that feed us

When we last left off, Atlus got self-referential on us and we made friends over the internet! For now, though, study and sleep call.

A bit more academics for the stats and we head on to school the next day, only for Yukari to greet us. She's amazed as how quickly time flies, since it's already May in game time. Since this game has been going pretty quickly for me, I respond with the tried and tested "True." Yukari gets anxious that the number of people contracting Apathy Syndrome hasn't been decreasing, and says we should keep training. Well, I would have gone last night, but SOMEONE was sick! Rassenfrassen healers being frail and less able to fight... We chat with Junpei after class, who tells us that Akihiko's getting a checkup at the hospital. Junpei's letting his ego get inflated since Akihiko wanted to be brought something and asked Junpei to do it. I swear, one of these days that ego of his is going to be his undoing. Thankfully, Yukari is quick with the pin to burst his bubble, pointing out that Akihiko only asked because Junpei wasn't busy after school. Strange. Seems Akihiko wanted the class roster for 2-E. I wonder why... Oh, who am I kidding? He's looking to recruit more party members to SEES. We choose to come along, blowing off Student Council for the time being. Look, I'll get to it when I get to it, okay? Junpei gets a little annoyed that Yukari and Minato seem intent on joining him, but other than that we're free to head on over.

We head over to the hospital to find Akihiko missing, and a strange and silent stranger sitting by the now empty bed. He has a cut-out, so he must be important! Before we can ask who he is, however, Akihiko appears behind us. He's curious as to why we're all here, but Yukari changes the subject quickly, saying that Akihiko's looking fine. The plot thickens! The visitor finally speaks up, asking Akihiko if "that's it". After Akihiko responds with yes, he stalks out in a traditionally broody fashion. Goodie, another anti-social dude who's likely to join our party. Turns out he knows some stuff about Apathy Syndrome sufferers, so Akihiko was asking him about it. Akihiko asks for the roster while stretching and exercising his injured arm, much to the alarm of our party. He shrugs off our attempts to get him to keep his arm still. Oi vey, enough with the Blood Knighting already! Junpei's impressed by Akihiko's determination, much to Akihiko's confusion. It also turns out that Akihiko learned boxing because he wanted to learn how to fight. Informative! Junpei tries to relate by saying that he's into "games" too, but Yukari quickly strikes him down.

We head on back to the dorm where Mitsuru informs us that a long weekend is coming up. She also suggests that we go training during that time, since she doesn't want us to get surprised by a strong Shadow and wind up injured like Akihiko. Totally not forehsadowing for the first full moon in 8 days, nosiree! Anyway, since Yukari has recovered, I decide to take Mitsuru's advice and head into Tartarus. This time around I have a specific goal in mind: make it up to the 10th floor as quickly as possible so I can just warp up there when I feel ready to take on the boss. This seems to go pretty well, since I make it make it up to the 8th floor without incident, and almost make it to the 9th without a single fight. Alas, Yukari gets attacked, so we're forced to jump in and curbstomp the Shadow. Alas, the 9th floor proves more difficult, as the stairs take a while to find and we get attacked by a few Shadows.

Thankfully, we manage to fight our way to the 10th floor where we find the next bosses. It's pretty much identical to the fifth floor, right down to Tellietubbie device and boss placement. I head on down to the first floor to save quickly and refill my HP and SP. With that done, I choose to head on up and try my luck against the boss. This time, they prove to be three giant hands known as Dancing Hands, all of which know some nasty moves like Zio (an electric attack that can knock Yukari down due to it being her weakness), Agi (fire fire, burn burn!), Bufu (freeze!) and Garu (which can really blow you away). Thankfully, after one hand goes down, Yukari and Junpei get really lucky with some criticals, knocking down one giant hand and taking it out in one turn, then knocking down the final hand for us to finish it off with an All-Out Attack. For our reward we get 3 Mazio Gems. That was kinda tough, but not too troublesome, all in all. After the bosses are killed, we head on over to a chest lying behind them, finding 2 Chewing Souls. All in all, not bad at all, especially since Minato is still only level 6. For reference, we took on the Venus Eagles at level 5. I decide that with that victory I might as well call it a night, since I can come back to Tartarus the next day and train some more.

I think I shall also call this an update, since we just took on and won against our second boss monster in Tartarus. So until next time, have fun in your Dark Hour coffins!
