I really should have Shaeffer'd this victory.

But alas, I had to be swift and merciless for the sake of the hostages. This was a pretty short, simple chapter otherwise.

Chapter 22 - Solo: Finished.

Ike & Soren: Stayed in the center, where they took on all comers, Soren taking a quick second to drop a Meteor on the Bolting Sage (whose tome came flying over to him from the explosion. How convenient!) as Ike killed all of the incoming archers, and then once all the treasure had been claimed, Soren dropped a pair of Meteors on Schaeffer.

Mist & Mordecai: Different pair than usual, but Jill and Mist can't shove, so they needed to switch things up a bit. They took the northeastern treasure room with Sothe as their thief, and simply pushed their way through all of the enemies until it was safe, and Sothe came in and sacked the place.

Jill & Stefan: Took the northwestern side with Volke, and after cleaning up the area of foes, Volke took his fair share.

Schaeffer: Got crushed to death by enormous flaming rocks. Not much else to say.

VS Schaeffer: The irony of the situation didn't escape from Soren. This man who had appeared before them was a mercenary working for Daein before Nevassa was taken, by the looks of it, and probably feared that Ike would kill him for working for Daein, and so created this trap when the group had approached the temple. This man obviously hadn't been very well informed, and so didn't know that Ike would have left him to go about his business had he not taken the clergymen of this temple hostage. Upon making that fatal mistake, Ike's wrath was incurred, and the man condemned his troop to death.

After the signal was given by the thieves that all of the treasure was secured, Soren readied the Meteor tome the group had received from the sage who had joined them before the battle in Talrega, finally putting the rare tome to good use. Soren set his aim, having a clear shot at the ignorant man, who believed so long as he had enough hostages around him, he was untouchable. Soren incanted, and watched the spell unfold.

Two blazing stones, each about the size of a small horse, materialized in the air above Schaeffer, who had not yet noticed them. He saw the clergymen around him shuffling away, and as the first stone struck, he quickly learned why. The first of the flaming projectiles slammed into the mans left shoulder, where his axe was resting. A scream of agony resounded as the wooden part of his axe splintered into his shoulder, while his left arm and most of his foot were torn off and crushed under the fiery rock which had embedded itself into the marble floor. The man attempted to escape, but the haze of pain and his mostly missing foot restricted him, and so the second meteor fell upon him, crushing the terrified and still screaming man beneath it with a grotesque crunch audible even as far back as where Soren was standing, leaving only the echo of his screams as evidence that the man had ever walked these halls.

Up Next: We head to the Riven Bridge, where we shall deal with tedious traps, sleepy wyvern knights, and a very miffed Daein Rider.

Comment Question: So, Siege tomes are fairly fun. I've noticed however, that I don't really use them that much, mostly due to their rarity, and while I try to let them be useful, they quickly fall into Too Awesome to Use territory unless I explicitly plan ahead to use them. What types of weapons are simply Too Awesome to Use for you in any Fire Emblem game?

Well, long-ranged magic is definitely something to keep a tight grip on, and there's a couple of staves (like the one you can earn in this chapter) that would be wasted on any battle other than the final one. I also tend to hoard Katti swords, and if there's a weapon with limited uses that's only meant for a single character, I tend to continue to hold onto them even after they become useless. Marth and Eliwood's rapiers, Hector's axe...you get the picture.

I'm going to have to find a particularly good use for that sleep staff in the future, because it could really mess up the entire enemy set up if used right. I agree with you on all counts though, and I actually still have Ike's Regal Sword in his inventory, despite it never getting any use anymore.

The part in Sword of Seals (final chapter of Sacae route) where I got fed up and broke out all the previously Too Awesome To Use stuff was hilarious.

It's not really hard, once you know the trick just long-range stuff, like two Boltings, two Killer Ballistas, a Berserk, and a Physic, with ranges hitting just outside your starting zone yet in inaccessible areas. Which you don't realize at first because fog-of-war.

Warp/Rescue Staves should not be left to rot in inventory. Once I did that it became absolutely trivial. Like seriously the easiest map in ages. Legendary weapons pale in comparison to how they can break levels.

That aside I'm oddly attached to unique myrmidon-type weapons. The Mani Katti, sure, but I've even used the Hammerne on Wo Daos before.

Is the chapter you're talking about the obscenely devious Desert Fog of War chapter I've heard so much about? If so, then it just got a lot harder.

Warp staves aren't too available, but I can never avoid using them when I have them, and have used the obscene number of them in FE 11 to absolutely break it (What was that Medeus? You had an enormous army? Sorry, I couldn't hear you over the sounds of me warping to you and crushing you instantly). Never really found a use for Rescue staves though, unless you have a flying healer or at least a Valkyrie.

Nah, desert is chapter 14, I was talking about 20. I never understood the complaints about the desert map on either mode, thought the ratio of fun-to-difficulty was good.

The use I found for the Rescue staff was to let you abuse Warp even more, since with a Dancer I can send somebody in, assassinate, and pull them out again before the enemy reacts.

I also have, as of chapter 20 Po R, 7 uses of the Regal Sword left. Ike never seems to be the one fighting the knights and cavaliers other knights.

Wow, that Warp/Rescue combo actually sounds really awesome. Warp your best unit into the enemy lines, slaughter some mooks, and when the going gets tough, get them out of their and make use of the chaos to allow your other powerful units to crush the remaining foes.
