Episode 5: Road to Nowhere.

Were on a road to nowhere, come on inside. Takin’ that ride to nowhere, we’ll take that ride...

Oh, hello there guys! I think it’s about time we get the plot going eh? So, being the Genre Savvy Pokemon trainer I am, I know Dave is just waiting on the Nugget Bridge to go DAVE MOTHERFUCKING OAK all over me. Too bad he’ll have to face the wrath of Fin the Gyarados.

And look, everything went Just as Planned. Dave fails at a surprise attack and I crush his tiny team like BUG with Fin, we were also able to smash all the trainers on the Nugget Bridge with ease. If any reader out there want to try to Nuzlocke a 1st Gen game or the 3rd gen remakes, that little 500 dollar investment at the Mt. Moon Pokemon Center will take you far.

Talking about bugs, I think I’ll take John out of semi-retirement to catch the first Pokemon I see on Route 24. After all, he does how the three status powder attacks and confusion which will be useful for catching Pokemon now and in the future. So after swapping Doze for John temporarily I headed into the nearest patch of grass on Route 24 (but we avoided the Camper in the grass, we’ll be using him later)...

OH MY FUCKING GOD AN ABRA! I am so lucky to find an Abra in the grass as my first Pokemon! So after John uses Sleep Powder on it and hits it with one Confusion (which doesn’t do much damage because of the broken Special Stat in this game) and caught it on the first ball! Because of my luck, I’m going to call him Clover! (He’s also going to be important later on)

So I go back to Route 24 and 25 (I critted the Kakuna I saw on Route 25, no big loss) after swapping John back to Doze to go crush some trainers and grind some levels to get my team prepared for Misty, Oh, and also to get the S.S Anne ticket from Bill. I defeat every trainer on Route 25 with the exception of the Slowpoke Youngster and helped Bill turn back into a human for the S.S Anne Ticket.

Now I think most of you have probably guessed why I haven’t versed certain trainers and why I was ecstatic when I caught Clover (Or you already know because I stated it in the TV Tropes Nuzlocke Thread). It’s because I’m going to do the Mew Trick so we can see that terrible, terrible sprite that Mew posses in this game. So I bring out John (and put him in first slot) and Clover from the PC and proceeded to do the Mew Trick.

After Telepor’in’ away from the Camper in the grass and beating the Slowpoke youngster (then teleporting back to the Cerulean Pokemon Center again) I head up to Route 24 right where it stops me by bringing up the Pause Screen.

Now most people just press B and encounter Mew (or another Pokemon) right here, however, we’ve already caught a Pokemon on Route 24 so if we just Press B right here, I won’t be allowed to catch Mew and I’m gonna have to faint it when I have all intentions on catching this thing. So I did the smart thing and teleportaled back to Cerulean City so the encounter was there! Now let’s catch this...

this...

this...

...

This horrible abomination of mankind.

Now, some of you who read my liveblog already know what I think the sprite looks like, but my god, it’s horrendous! Now some people may consider the R/B Golbat to be worse, but I personally think this is the worst sprite in the history of all the Pokemon games. Oh well, might as well catch it despite the fact I will not use it in battle (It might make a Good HM Slave you never know but that would be violation of the “NO LEGENDARIZ!” policy I’ve got going) so hello there Snowman.

After capturing Snowman and grinding my official team of Rose, Itchy, Eridan, Fin, Eggs and Doze to Level 25 I took on Misty’s gym. The Gym trainers were easy to beat, but for some reason, Misty’s Starmie took a long time to take down and all it did was use Tackle! Oh well, got to Cascade Badge and Bubblebeam (for Fin) and head on down to Viridian. I beat the Rocket here, got Dig and caught a Meowth (Die instead of the obvious Nepeta) on Route 4 before heading down to Route 5 and defeating all the trainers there (and one shotting the Bellsprout I encountered too, not my lucky day but no huge loss either) and grinding my team to level 30. So far I’m going well! I hope I can keep up this string of good luck!

Pokemon Total: 12

Body Count: 0

(Body count does not include Pokemon not caught but fainted)

Next time, Fool’s goes aboard the S.S Anne and Lt. Surge.
