OK guys, we've got Fusoya, we've got Bahamut, nothing else to do but return to Earth.

We land near Eblan, but as soon as we do, the ground starts shaking!

Rydia: Ahh!

Cecil: The tower has...!?

Fusoya: We are too late!

Edge: What do you mean, "too late"!?

Fusoya: The Giant of Babil will come forth!

A giant robot falls from the sky onto the ground and starts blowing stuff up. Shit, this is bad.

Rydia: No!

Edge: Dammit!

Rydia: Is there nothing else we can do?

Cecil: What's that!?

Something starts shooting at the Giant. It's the Red Wings, and the Dwarves! We start seeing in all the airships and tanks, and all of our allies are here!

Giott: Dwarven tanks, ready to fire! We will fight along with you for the land, our home!

Lali-ho!

Yang: I couldn't sit still and leave you all the responsibility of fighting alone!

Cid: You can relax now! With my help, this'll be a cinch! All engines to full power!

Crewmen: Yes, sir!

Hey, wait a sec, is that Palom and Porom? Not Quite Dead count: Palom:1 Porom:1

Palom: Hey, all! Did ya miss me?

Porom: The elder restored us.

Elder: This battle is not yours alone! Everyone must fight for the sake of our planet's survival!

Edward: I will fight with you, Cecil, with the courage you have given me!

Looks like they're distracting the Giant.

Cecil: Thank you!

Rosa: The Giant looks confused!

Fusoya: Now is our chance to enter the Giant of Babil!

Edge: I get it! We're going for the core, right? Its heart!

Cecil: Cid!

Cid lands next to us and we get on.

Fusoya: Approach its mouth.

Cid: Who is he?

Cecil: Fusoya, Guardian of the Lunarians.

Cid: Lunarians...?

Fusoya: Can you do this or not?

Cid: Ahh, keep your beard on. There's nothing I can't do!

Into the giant moon robot we go!

Fusoya: Now!

Cid: Hang on!

We fall into the top of the Giant, the Giant's Mouth. This dungeon is accompanied by one of the best songs in the game, Within the Giant.

We descend into the Giant's Chest. Rosa learns Arise while heading down to all of the chests, including another Siren.

Next is the Giant's Stomach. It's about this point that things get tricky.

Next thing down is the Inner Passage, where we find a Save Point. And we need it. Because when we progress to the Inner Stair, Rubicante appears! Not Quite Dead count: Rubicante:1

Rubicante: You come at last.

And Barbariccia! Not Quite Dead count: Barbariccia:1

Barbariccia: You cannot stop the Giant of Babil.

And Cagnazzo! Not Quite Dead count: Cagnazzo:1

Cagnazzo: Hahaha... Now is the time...

And Scarmiglione! Not Quite Dead count: Scarmiglione:2

Scarmiglione: ...for the death of you all!

Cecil: The elemental archfiends!

Scarmiglione: Indeed.

Cagnazzo: Master Zemus blessed us with a second life.

Barbariccia: Prepare to die.

Rubicante: I shall enjoy fighting you again. You have taught us the power of joining forces. That is what we will do. Now, allow me to restore your strength.

He heals us.

Rubicante: This time, we shall prevail.

We now have to fight the four Elemental Archfiends, one at a time. First is Scarmiglione, who we kill quickly with fire.

Next is Rubicante, who has ditched the cloak gimmick, so he falls pretty easily to ice. He still hits hard, though, so we use up a lot of MP on healing.

Next is Cagnazzo, who always has his water torrents up, so weak to thunder. He doesn't get to do much except some annoying physicals.

Finally, Barbariccia, who is in permanent Tornado mode, but is vulnerable to all attacks, we still have to heal a lot, though, as she has Maelstrom, an HP to One attack that hits the whole party. She eventually falls. Immediately after hitting me with Maelstrom, much to my eternal annoyance.

Scarmiglione: Master Zemus!

Cagnazzo: Please, one last chance...

Barbariccia: We have failed again...

Rubicante: Farewell, valiants.

And they all die. Also, that was not teamwork. Now quick, back to the Save Point before a back attack screws us over!

One Cottage and save later...

We finally reach the Giant's Control Core.

Fusoya: So this is the core of the Giant! This is the CPU!

Edge: Whoa...

Fusoya: We have to destroy the Defense Node first, because it can heal the CPU!

So we fight the CPU, the Attack Node and the Defense Node. Once we kill the Defense Node, it's basically a joke that you can't use magic against (It casts Reflect on itself). DO NOT KILL BOTH NODES, it will use Object 199 twice, which will do 9000+ damage to each target, then regenerate the nodes. The Attack Node's Laser Barrage, is mostly harmless, but we still want to stay healed. Hell, I could probably use Auto Battle on this. In fact, I will! Set Rosa and Fusoya to Cura all, then have everyone else Attack the CPU. Simple. Once the CPU is dead, we quickly kill of the Attack Node to end the battle.

Cecil: All right!

Edge: We stopped it!

???: Why, you...!

I can guess who this is. Golbez walks in.

Golbez: How dare you destroy the Giant!

Fusoya: You!

Golbez: Do I know you?

Fusoya: You have to look deep inside yourself! You have to realise who you truly are!

Golbez: Stop it!

I'm with Golbez on this one, in his perspective, he's getting yelled at by a crazy old man. Not the first time it's happened to him, though.

Fusoya: You must wake up!

Fusoya casts something on Golbez. He collapses, and quickly gets back up.

Golbez: What came over me? Why was I filled... with so much hatred?

Fusoya: ...You have regained your true self then. Do you remember your father's name?

Golbez: My father... His name was Kluya.

Cecil: What!?

Rosa: Then you must be Cecil's...

Edge: You two are brothers!?

Cecil: My brother...?

What a twist!

Fusoya: You were Zemus's puppet in his plan. He was using you with his hypnotic powers. You were chosen because you have the blood of Kluya, a Lunarian, coursing through you. The bond made it easier for you to be controlled. But to make you fight against your own flesh and blood...

Edge: We get it, old man!

Cecil: I was fighting... against my own brother? All of this hate... is against my own flesh and blood?

Golbez: Then you're...?

Cecil: I wonder why you were chosen. It could have easily been me, as I also have Lunarian blood.

I wonder how THAT game would have played out. Golbez and the Archfiends as protagonists?

Golbez: I was chosen... because of the seeds of evil that lay inside me. Zemus saw that evil... and he helped it grow...

In the DS version, at this point, we get a flashback. As this version of the game is directly based of of FFIV Advance, though, it's not in this version. When Kluya came to Earth, he fell in love with and married a human, Cecilia. They had a son, Theodor. Kluya also taught the people of Earth how to use magic in such a way to promote peace.

One day, when Cecilia was pregnant with their second child, Kluya was attacked by a group of people who disagreed with him on how magic should be used. They wished to use magic as a weapon. Theodor tried to heal Kluya, but his magic was practically non-existent, and Kluya died.

A few months later, Cecil was born. Cecilia died in labour. A short time later, Zemus started to work his influence. He convinced Theodor that Cecil was responsible for the deaths of both his parents. He made Theodor abandon Cecil near Baron. Zemus gave Theodor a new name, Golbez. Golbez soon after fled civilisation. As for Cecil, the king of Baron found him abandoned outside his city and adopted him.

Golbez starts to leave.

Cecil: Where are you going?

Golbez: To find Zemus! I'll settle this!

Fusoya: Wait! I, too, am a Lunarian, just like Zemus. I will join you!

Golbez: Goodbye, Cecil.

Those two leave.

Edge: Is this what you want, Cecil? Cecil?

Rosa: Golbez may never come back... You know that, right?

Cecil: ...

Rydia: Aren't you going to do anything? He's your brother!

Cecil: My... brother...

Rydia: Yes!

Cecil: ...

The Giant starts to collapse!

Edge: We might be in trouble...

Rydia: We have to get out of here!

Rosa: Cecil!

Cecil: ...

I'm guessing Cecil didn't take the latest reveal very well.

Edge: What are you doing?

Rydia: We need to find a way out!

???: This way!

Kain comes in!

Rosa: Kain!

Edge: Oh no, we're not falling for that again!

Kain: You can doubt me later! If you don't want to die in here, then just follow me for now!

The Giant shakes a bit more.

Rosa: Hurry!

The Giant falls over, and breaks into pieces. We retreat to the Lunar Whale.

Kain: I was finally able to regain my true self... I don't expect you to forgive me, after all I've done, but...

Edge: Of course we're not gonna forgive you! The Giant was practically your doing!

Rosa: Stop it!

Kain: Rosa...

Rosa: It's not Kain's fault! You saw how Zemus had control over even Golbez!

Kain: Golbez, too?

Rosa: Golbez is... Cecil's older brother... A Lunarian named Zemus was controlling him, using the Lunarian blood he carries.

Rydia: Golbez and Fusoya went to the moon to destroy Zemus.

How do you know this? Maybe they found some ancient technology on Earth that they're gonna aim right at Zemus or something.

Kain: Golbez is Cecil's... brother... Then I, too, should follow them to give Zemus what he deserves!

Edge: I hope you don't end up betraying us again.

Kain: If that happens, then you should cut me down without hesitation!

Edge: I'll go, too! I want to give this guy a piece of my mind!

Kain: Edge...

Cecil: ...I'll go. I'll go, too! To the moon!

Rosa: Cecil...

Cecil: Rosa, Rydia. you two stay here. The three of us will go. I can't put you in this kind of danger.

WHAT? Why are you telling these two to stay in the metaphorical kitchen? Did the shock of learning Golbez is your brother kill off all your brain cells?

Rosa: But Cecil!

Rydia: That's not fair!

Cecil: Please... you have to get off the Lunar Whale.

Rosa leaves.

Edge: You kids won't be much help, anyway.

Okay, I expect that amount of stupidity from Edge, but still...

Rydia: Who're you calling kids!?

Rydia runs out.

Edge: Just stay put. Okay?

Kain: Cecil...

Cecil: Kain! Edge!

They take off to the Red Moon.

Cecil: Let's go!

As they try to leave, Rosa enters! What the hell?

Kain: Rosa!

Rosa: ...

Cecil: Out of the way, Rosa.

Rosa: No! You have to take me with you! Otherwise, I'm not moving!

You know, there's a second exit...

Cecil: Why are you doing this...?

Rosa: I want to be with you. I don't care what happens, as long as I'm with you.

Cecil: Rosa...

Kain: I guess we have no choice.

Edge: Well, aren't you a ladies' man!

Cecil: All right... Rosa, I'll protect you with my life.

They hug.

???: It worked!

In comes Rydia!

Edge: What!? You!

Rydia: I told you before that this was everyone's war! Besides, I'm the only one who can summon Eidolons to help us!

Cecil: Rydia... You, too...? ...Fine. Let's all go! After all, this is everyone's battle!

After that, we get told that if we go to the Hall of Prayer, we can change our party members. I guess we'll go take a look next time.

The battle against the Four Archfiends is the farthest I've ever made it in this game (on my original SNES playthrough, where I skipped all optional dungeons, explored a whole optional Moon dungeon without getting anything out of it, and ended up completely deprived of supplies by the time I went into the Giant — without any opportunity to shop around at that point).

So all this is completely new to me...

Well, you were pretty close to the end. There's only one dungeon left in that version.

"WHAT? Why are you telling these two to stay in the metaphorical kitchen? Did the shock of learning Golbez is your brother kill off all your brain cells? "

Not quite my words, but close enough. I remember being pissed off at that back when the game was new. Leaving the party healer and black mage/caller behind just because they don't have dicks?

I would have loved to see (but not play through) Cecil and the guys trying to get by on Edge's pathetic spells and Cecil's by-this-point-obsolete healing magic. They would get what they deserved.

I always found Sylph to be pretty useful against the CPU, since it's Rydia's best single-target non-reflectable spell. Of course, that means Rosa and Fu So Ya have pretty much nothing to do, unless they have bows for a small bit of attacking.

Ceci, Edge, Kain, Fu So Ya and Golbez make five partymembers. They don't want the game to have to kill off partymembers again.
