Rise of the Ice Fiend

Welcome back and we're still on a quest to find poison resistance. This here is Kirke, an enchanter. She's also unique among uniques for having a unique spell called Porkinator something. Basically, anything she points at becomes a pig which is why there are so many pigs around. She goes down pretty fast though, so it's a matter of getting close to her without getting porkinated. She can also summon very ugly things, which are like ugly things except meaner. All in all, she isn't that bad. And when she's defeated, all the pigs turn into neutral humans. Yay!

Looks like with the last of the orc knights gone, Demi Fiend is striking it out solo for now on. Anyway, this is a wraith. If it touches you, it can drain you of experience. Unseen horrors are much more interesting. They're basically invisible (unless you can see invisible like I can thanks to my ring) and act like bats so are hard to track down.

Yaktuars are like centuars, except slower, have a preference for crossbows, and generally meatier. They eventually begin to get crazy awesome later. Behind that is a raven, which, well, haven't ever seen that kind of enemy before so I don't know what it does.

The raven changes into a troll.

Okay, so it's a shape shifter. Shape shifters basically morph into different enemies and take on their properties aside from HP.

Lots of new enemies today, dontcha think? Anyway, this is a lava snake, they don't ever leave the lava and have the gall to spit fire at you all day long. Just grab a ring of fire or fire protection and beat them down.

This, however, is a guardian serpent. They move fast, cast, and can poison you. Don't take them lightly, they're quite meaty for casters. Unless it decides to morph into an elf, in which case it's a shapeshifter.

Oh no! You have blundered into a Zot trap!

Venomous gasses pour from your hands!

You are engulfed in poison gas.

You are poisoned.

Bogdar is engulfed in poison gas.

Bogdar is poisoned.

This is a zot trap and by far the nastiest of all traps. I got off easy here, it just gave me some poisoning but it can do upwards of summoning high level demons, sending you to the abyss, etc.

Hey, it's a draconian. These guys come in every flavor of the rainbow for each variety of dragon and have the ability to equip gear and wield weapons. They can be quite formidable later in the game. ...if they aren't a shapeshifter.

Freezing wraiths are, well, wraiths that freeze you. We, however, have a demonic sword of fire that cuts through it like a hot knife through butter. Rock trolls, however, are basically trolls with greater defense, but at a catch, they move slow. So if need be, you can just run from these guys.

Hey, it's a hydra that transformed into a dragon. Guess what it is? Anyway, dragons are notable for having a hell of a fire blast that burns your skin right off, so don't engage them from a distance, get close where they'll claw at you instead.

WOO HOO! Shopping time! Bazaars are basically areas that lead to traveling vending machines that usually have some very nice gear but only give one chance ever to go there and even that's timed. Carrying roughly over a thousand gold, I think it's time to splurge. Anyway, this time the only thing worth buying is an artifact splint mail that ups Demi Fiend's attack even further. With it, Demi Fiend officially breaks into the thirties with 32 strength. I think I might be going overkill with this but then again, Demi Fiend doesn't really need intelligence or dexterity right now.

We might see some TSO action this game since Beogh's advantages are beginning to drop in usefulness and we'll need TSO for the increasingly large number of demons we'll be seeing.

This is a deep elf knight. Unlike the normal deep elf, these guys actually managed to get meaty while still being able to spell cast. Despite this, they end up being more a jack of all trades and so still can't take a fight head on. The red wasp, however, is a much greater threat due to its ability to poison you with things other than poison, like say, slow, paralysis, etc.

The deep elf soldier and to his right, the deep elf fighter. Unlike the knight variety, these guys are just laughable. New portal and this will be a bit of risk since I lack ice protection but oh well.

Our next type of undead are the simulacrum, basically ice robots. They leave behind a cloud of ice vapor upon being killed but beyond that, they're just like all undead but tougher. The ice statue is a bit more notable since it's like Roxanne but sticks solely to tossing ice attacks. Feel my blade of fire!

Well, I think it's fair to say I'm now thoroughly fucked. This is the ice fiend, it is a rank 1 demon with ice powers. You don't mess with rank 1 demons. Failing to have brought along scrolls of teleportation or anything else that could save me from a damn ICE FIEND, I'm now screwed, royally screwed. What follows is a game over because I didn't think to fetch any of the escape scrolls from a stash upstairs after I ran out.

All in all, I didn't expect Demi Fiend to last that long so I'm happy and this might signal a shift in this liveblog from wide to deep because I've got more of the dungeon to show off still.

Never the less, long live Demi Fiend, in another life time, he shall be the greatest fiend of all.

And with that, I putting this on hiatus because I don't know when I'll have internet again. In the meantime, go play this game.

Well, that's a bit of a shame; Demi-Fiend's existance lasted ridiculously long in comparison to all that came before, and I was starting to hope that he'd go all the way. Nevertheless, you were able to show off a lot of neat and interesting things with him, and did a wonderful job overall. Oh, and have a pleasant hiatus!
