I Could Do This All Day

No really, I could. I'm enjoying this so much that I'm updating more than I think I should. But oh well, this is too fun.

Since last time, I've had Socrates go through a bunch more Promotion Exams. I'm pretty proud to say that she managed to defeat a level 40 enemy single-handed. She's now Rank 6, and level 26. She level up at least three times from one of the Promotion Exams. Hopefully my other characters can come anywhere near her achievements.

To Calaaaaaaaaaamity Woods!

Heh. Laharl encouraged everyone to join in, so... they did. Everybody's joined in to fight Laharl. The entire map is full.

...yes, I have to fight all of them. However, this is the bridge of Khazad-dum, and they shall not pass. They can only attack me one-on-one, so that'll make it easier, especially if I use Socrates with backing from Tacitus and Flonne.

Oh, and these guys are all around level 12, so it's not like i'm facing an army of Mooks. They're at least somewhat of a challenge.

There's really not much to say here. Flonne is fire-blasting them, and Tacitus is taking down the weaker ones while Socrates clears a path into the middle of the group.

Socrates eventually makes it into the middle of the group, but those flying guys are being really annoying and poisoning me. Luckily I have Flonne around to make it all better.

Soon, what once was a horde is now a couple angry people trying to damage me. And soon after that, I've won and I have a ton of money for the spending. Will the next match be the same? We will soon find out! Unless you've played this game before, then you probably already know.

It is the "Ritual Site", and we hath met a foe who opts to speaketh like an Elizabethan. Well this is an odd fight. I think I'll steal her stuff.

Ooh, she's level 24. A challenge!

I send out just Laharl to fight her. I send him out, then pull him back next turn so that I can have Marx try to steal from Sardia.

Well, I only had about a 1% chance to steal anything, so that sucks. I try anyways, but fail. How am I supposed to get a higher percent than that!?

Surprisingly, both Laharl and Tacitus get killed off by Sardia, but she's no match for Socrates.

Flonne, too! This madwoman knows no bounds!

Socrates terminates her with extreme prejudice.

It's far from cheap to revive everyone that died, but it's necessary.

Now to the Witches' Den, where a Prinny awaits. In fact, the whole Prinny squad awaits! But... they're Prinnies. They're not going to be able to stand a chance!

So, they split up on this big stage, which looks oddly like a baseball diamond. Then, they... challenge me to a game of baseball.

What. The. Hell.

Oh, but Laharl is too lame for that kind of thing, so he just decides to kill them. Booooring! They're level 16 or so, so it's a little harder than usual. Kind of. They're still Prinnies, after all.

To rub salt in the wound of their patheticness, I have Marx throw a Prinny at another, killing them both, even though they're waaaaaay higher level than him. Ha.

I don't really need more than a few characters for this stage. It's actually over really quickly, in the most disappointing stage yet. I wanted to play Prinny baseball!

Next up is the boss level, in the "Writhing Shadow" Sounds pleasant!

Wow, whoever or whatever this is, it's HUGE! Laharl isn't even as big as its toe! Apparently he's the Overlord of an Alternate Netherworld. Huh. Luckily this guy's nice enough to shrink down, and split into 10 little Overlords.

The problem? They're all level 75!!!

I send out Socrates, and hope that I'm not destroyed and smashed into little, itty bitty bits.

Just one of the Overlords kills all of my characters in one attack. How am I supposed to win this!?!?

Oh. OH.

I was supposed to lose! Damnit, why didn't I think of that!? These kinds of battles always mess me up. One time in Star Ocean 2, I kept a battle going for 2 hours because I didn't know I was supposed to lose. This one was at least a little more obvious and harder.

Hey hey hey, a bunch of the guys form the castle are here! I remember them being somewhere around level 300, so I think they'll do well.

I'm pretty much just here to watch, now. These other guys kick ass.

That was fun. It seems there's another level after this, "Nightdwellers," maybe this will be the last level of this area.

Okay, now an attack from a Super Sentai. Reminds me of the Scummy Rangers from Star Ocean 2. This is just silly!

Naturally, Flonne thinks they're awesome. They're about to transform or do some fancy moves, when Etna just shoots them. Apparently the Red Prism Ranger hired some demons beforehand, and now I fight him and them.

Okay, the main aspect of this stage is the giant cliff in front of me where Prism Red is hanging out with his monster bodyguard. Also, the entire stage is covered in a red Geo-Panel, the effect of which being to warp me. This should be pretty entertaining.

I send out all of my main characters, and Flonne and Laharl kill off three front line monsters. Next turn everyone will be all around the map.

Punchmaster has fallen! I should've bought her better armour...

Funny enough, Socrates, my strongest character, is in the middle of nowhere, and Flonne and Tacitus, my weakest, are right next to Red. Sadly, he kills Flonne mercilessly. What kind of hero is he?

Next turn: Yup, you guessed it: Socrates and Laharl, in the middle of nowhere. Those are some smart Geo-Effects.

Next turn is pretty much the same, too, except Tacitus is in a seriously horrible position, between two full-health enemies.

However, it's also Tacitus who kills Prism Red, and levels up as a result. Only one enemy is left, but he keeps on warping around to areas far away from my characters. I win soon, though.

And there's ANOTHER level after that! Jeez!

Since this one's called "The Heart of Evil", I'm guessing it's the last place.

A familiar voice comes from the woods. It's.................................... Mid-Boss!

He's here to challenge Laharl again, and he's more powerful this time, again. My initial position is surrounded by enemies, but luckily I have a height advantage.

I have everyone attack, and other than Laharl and Socrates, not much damage is done.

Flonne dies, and Tacitus is near death.

Most of my team feels asleep, so nto much can be done. Tacitus dies.

A few more enemies are killed next turn, but Etna dies. It's mostly up to Laharl and Socrates now. Punchmaster dies. This is a massive Phyrric victory.

In the end there's just Laharl and Socrates. That was tough, but I win.

Mid-Boss runs off, and now Laharl is the Overlord! Fantastic. Now we can watch the credits roll, and I can go on to Live Blog another game...

No, wait, there's still stuff going on. Flonne is probably going to have to face the Angels and all that, so I'm guessing that will be the plot of the next Episode.

Cutscene time. Laharl has to explain the purpose of his Evil Laugh to Flonne, who's worried, since laughing is all he's been doing lately.

But Etna has a job for him, and Laharl wants to exercise his powers. He's interested in raining pepper on Earth to make all the puny humans sneeze, or introduce a new video game to make kids stay up all night.

Etna sends in a short person named Aramis. He's kind of a dick, and calls Flonne flatchested. Apparently he wants Laharl to find his pets for him. I'm guessing his pets are dragons or something. This is going to be... odd.

I'll save here, and get started on the next set of missions once I've messed around for a while in the Item World and stuff. Until then...

Personally, "Nightdwellers" was the only level in this set I really hated. Tactics become entirely moot when your entire team is getting randomly teleported every turn.

Oh goody, "the part" is coming up next..

IIRC, the enemy levels take a jump right about now.

On the topic of Stealing, I know that Rogues have double the odds of other characters, and the rate of success increases the higher the person's level is. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if rare items (which can be powered up more than the regular versions via Item World) were even harder to steal than average ones. There's probably an exact formula, but I'm not going to bother making a trip to Game FA Qs to look it up.

IIRC, the stat bonus on the (Whatever) Glove items also influences your chance to steal.

Yeah, I was using the best gloves I could buy (at the time, I have better ones now), but Marx is somewhere around level 3, so yeah... I'll go have him fight the bourgeoisie.

Ah, it's been a while since I played this game...

Oh, this is gonna be good.

Equippable Horse Wiener.

That is all.

And we're not kidding, the enemy levels really begin to jump like crazy soonish..

Btw, if you really are getting bored with the lack of challenge, you can pass a measure in the Dark Assembly to up the levels of all the enemies. If it gets too much, you can drop them down later.

The main factor in stealing things is your thief's level compared to the enemies level. Better get to leveling Marx! Cause you're gonna want to be stealing stuff from the boss of the next chapter!

Marx is leveling up pretty nicely, I've had him team attack stuff with his mentor, Laharl, so that he gets some of the experience. I think I'll stop level-grinding him once he's about level 20.
