When we last left off our heroes, they recruited Jixen, the level 3 Changeling Rogue. Which I doubt was possible to do and that the people who made the adventure didn’t seem to see that coming... But fuck it. Half of my characters were dying. We need a fifth. And a heavy hitter at that too. Also an extended rest. So, now we take on the Dragon. No, the trope, not the actual dragon. To be frank, I’m not sure what this is meant to introduce to the DM. I’m guessing treasure, since, well, it offers a shit ton of it.

Let’s begin, shall we? As soon as we entered the room, we get into a battle with some goblins in a room filled with crates, so...

Alright, let’s get the fighting underway... Jixen goes first and he goes and attacks a goblin

[Attack Roll: Feint (+6) Vs. Reflex (14) Roll... 13]

Doh, I missed! Alright, well, I have him distracted long enough, time to have Hugh cleave at him, with Smith firing off a Magic Missile to automatically hurt the goblin.

[Attack Roll: Sword (+8 and plus 2 for the combat advantage) Vs. AC (15) Roll... 14]

WHAT!? What’s with all the missing? Okay, Darerris will have to backstab!

[Attack Roll: Knife (+6 and plus 2 for the combat advantage) Vs. AC (15) Roll... 28, natural 20, so extra damage, using the Sneak Attack power!] [Damage: 16]

Ooooh! Bloodied! And he has seven health left... Guess who I’m gonna have kill him?

Oh, right. The goblin attacks now, though he picks Darerris.

[Attack Roll: Short Sword (+6) vs. AC (18 due to Darkleaf) Roll... 8]

The other goblin rushes to their aid.

[Attack Roll: Short Sword (+6 and +2) vs. AC (16) Roll... 22] [Damage: 13]

Ouch. Okay, let’s see if the other enemies notice the fighting...

Perception Check: 12

  • Goblin: 22 (natural 20)
  • Gobby: 14
  • Kurrash: 28 (natural 20)

So, it’d seem that everyone noticed. Well, that goes to show what happens when you make enough noise. The third Goblin runs into the storage room and throws a dagger at Jixin.

[Attack Roll: Dagger (+6) vs. AC (17) Roll... 19] [Damage: 9]

Kurrash runs up too, though Gobby stays and waits for things to heat up. Hollyhana decides to heal Darerris, healing her for 8. Right, since the adventurers would go next anyways, I’ll have Agent Smith cast a Magic Missile and kill the bloodied goblin. Next, Jixin goes and tries to attack another Goblin.

Alright, he gets combat advantage for the next turn. Hugh will assist in attacking.

[Attack Roll: Sword (+8 and +2 for the combat advantage) Vs. AC (15) Roll... 17] [Damage: 13]

And now Darerris’ turn. She can’t really backstab since the goblin is against the wall, but she can take combat advantage.

[Attack Roll: Knife (+6 and +2 for the combat advantage) Vs. AC (15) Roll... 20] [Damage: 7]

Bloodied. Alright, now the Goblins get their hit in. They surround Jixin and attack him.

Ouch, that’d kill half of my crew, but Jixin is hanging on by a thread. Fuck... Kurrash is next.

[Attack Roll: Lifedrinker Greataxe (+9 and +2) vs. AC (17) Roll... 22] [Damage: 19]

And shit. Jixin’s down. Thankfully not out. Gobby waits for the battle while Hollyhana tries to stabilize Jixin.

[Heal DC: 12. Roll... 23]

So she gives him some help. Jixin tries to heal.

[Death Saving Throw (+2 with Hollyhana’s help): 22, natural 20, so he comes back with full health]

Great! But he spent his action already. Hugh, Darerris, and Agent Smith now work to kick some major ass. First, a magic missile, and then a slash.

Erm... Darerris?

[Attack Roll: Knife (+6 and +2 for the combat advantage) Vs. AC (15) Roll... 16] [Damage: 5]

And that goblin is dead. Though now it frees up space for a threeway attack from Kurrash, Gobby, and the surviving Goblin.

[Attack Roll: Lifedrinker Greataxe (+9 and +2) vs. AC (17) Roll... 22] [Damage: 20]

So he manages to hang on. Now Darerris prepares to give her allies some of her own temporary hitpoints... Yeah, Kurrash has the Lifedrinker Greataxe, which grants him 5 temporary hit points when he defeats a hero, which is what he did with Jixin. Jixin and Hollyhana switch places (their turns take place after each other, so why not?) and she fires off a sunburst.

Wow... Fail. Oh, hey, our heroes are surrounding Kurrash! You know what this means!

[Attack Roll: Knife (+6 and +2) and Sword (+8 and +2) vs. AC (16). Roll... 21 for Hugh, 11 for Darerris] [Damage: (Using Power Strike) 22]

Good damage, but let’s see if the Wizard can top it.

[Attack Roll: Burning Hands (+5) Vs. Reflex (14 and 15) Roll... 24] [Damage: 12]

Meh, not much, but it will do. Kurrash and the Goblin’s turn. They pick Darerris.

[Attack Roll: Short Sword (+6 and +2) and Lifedrinker Greataxe (+9 and +2) Vs. AC (16). Roll... 19 and 31 (that one was a natural 20... Fuck)] [Damage: 12 and 18, for a total of... 30!?] [[hottip:*:I tried the Natural 20 reward for Kurrash, but it turned out the damage would have been 48. Damn dice]

So Darerris is dead. Again. Holly, try to heal her!

[Heal DC: 12. Roll... 9]

FAIL! Okay, let’s see if Hugh can take out Kurrash.

[Attack Roll: Sword (+8) vs. AC (16) Roll... 27] [Damage: 13]

And that bloodies Kurrash. Alright, now for some Arc Lightning from Agent Smith.

[Attack Roll: Arc Lightning (+5) vs. Reflex (15 and 14). Roll... 22] [Damage: 11]

And blooding the other Goblin to boot. Darerris, now is the time for you to heal up.

Good, she’s stable. Kurrash retreats while the Goblin takes care of things for him.

[Attack Roll: Short Sword (+6) Vs. AC (18). Roll... 24] [Damage: 11]

Gobby then moves in to finally help.

[Attack Roll: Short Sword (+6 and +2) vs. AC (18). Roll... 27] [Damage: 10]

Great, now Hollyhana’s bloodied up, and I already spent my healing word. Guess the only thing I can do now is have her go off and rest while Jixin cleans up. He attacks the bloodied goblin.

Okay then, Hugh? Oh... Wait... the only monster he can hit is Gobby. Okay then.

[Attack Roll: Sword (+8) vs. AC (16) Roll... 15]

DAMN IT! Okay, give these guys a freezing burst, Agent Smith!

[Attack Roll: Freezing Burst (+5) vs. Reflex (15 and 14) Roll... 19] [Damage: 7]

And so, the comedy of errors commences. Gobby’s tactic is to run the hell away from the battle, while Kurrash’s tactic is to go to a room where there’s a giant burning urn and tip it over to cause massive damage. Though he only does this when he’s at ten health, and he’s only at seventeen... But still... I do want a comedy of errors to occur... Why the fuck not. Let’s have him tip the urn over, thinking one of his enemies just got in.

The sounds of screaming could be heard as Agent Smith decides to just raid the crates and ignore the two enemies. What goodies did he get from the crates?

ITEM GET!

Some Rope! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. Well, I’m just gonna check Kurrash and Gobby’s saving throws and see if they succumb to the fire.

[Saving Throw: 11]

Oh no. They live.

So Those Two Bad Guys figured it was a stupid idea to turn their room into a sauna and leave the area. However, Kurrash runs into battle while Gobby runs out of the area. Agent Smith then feeds Kurrash a Magic Missile, killing him.

[EXPERIENCED EARNED: 550!]

And so our heroes take another extended rest, because they were getting their asses handed to them, and as soon as they’re done, they each took an item from the crate.

  • Hugh and Jixin get fifty feet of rope.
  • Darerris gets one whole gold piece.
  • Hollyhana gets herself a few pints of lamp oil... all we need are bombs.

We’re almost done. There’s one more enemy we have to face now... Malareth himself. Oh... and something tells me we’ll be needing that Lifedrinker Greataxe Kurrash was touting around...
