"It'll only be one year, honey."
Mrs. Narukami looked at her son from across the table.
Her sliver-haired child sighed.
"I know, I know, your father and I force you to move around all the time, but this opportunity is far too important for us to resist. We'll be heading overseas, so this time you'll have to go without us around."
"....."
A blank stare.
"Your uncle will be taking care of you, dear. And besides, the fresh country air will be good for you!"

After an awkward and, frankly, unnecessary, bidding adieu to his classmates, Yu Narukami left the school building, and all the people who never bothered to get to know him- Why should they? He arrived halfway through the school year. Everyone had made their friends by then.
Yu Narukami lifted his small suitcase from the ground as his train pulled in. He could overhear a diet drink ad in the background, somehow piercing the noise of the crowded station, then news of some political scandal or another.
The ride to Yasoinaba Station was proving a long one. Who could blame anyone for trying to catch some sleep along the way?
The hum of a motor, quiet, yet powerful.
The feel of a stunningly soft fabric on his body.
An eerily beautiful piano melody, a female voice soon accompanying it.
What the?...
Suddenly, a snicker, both welcoming and strange.
A peculiar little man with bulging eyes and an immense nose smiles at his newest guest.
"Welcome, to the Velvet Room."
