I can barely remember when I first heard about the Chrono series. All I do remember is waves and waves of nostalgic video gamers singing the praises of Chrono Trigger, this Super Nintendo RPG. Some sites - like this one, as I would soon find out - almost appeared to worship to the ground it walked on, to use a well-worn cliche. Enough so that when I heard of the game coming to the Nintendo DS, I was very excited to try it out. So, Christmas came and I got to play the game I heard so much about and ...

Let's get this out of the way. Chrono Trigger is overrated. HOWEVER, that is not to say it's bad. Rather, it is extremely good, one of the best RPGs I ever played. It's just that given the high praise the game gets, it'd be nigh impossible for it to not be overrated. Really, too many people throw around the word "overrated" as if that by itself is a legitimate criticism.

I got Chrono Cross later, but I'll get to that should I come to it.

A few things to note here:

1) I will be covering the Nintendo DS version of Chrono Trigger and the Greatest Hits release of Chrno Cross. For the former, movies will be turned on and the new control and display scheme for that version shall be used.

2) I will not be going over Radical Dreamers. I may change my mind later on, but for the moment I am not planning to play it.

3) I shall only attempt the best ending for each game. The other endings will receive, at most, a brief summary. Relatedly, I will only go through the game once (though, I will note the changes for New Game Plus).

4) All player characters will get new names. Suggestions are welcome, but no giving characters their real names if they use pseudonyms. So I won't name Frog "Glenn" or something like that.

Next update, we start with Chrono Trigger DS and a boy waking up.

I apologize if there's an uncertain feeling to this. I'm not really sure how to do this, but figured trying it anyway (and failing at places) would be the best way to learn.

I adore how there's a ton of stuff you can do here that will affect how the trial goes. There's replay value for you.
