Who owns TVTropes?
TVTropes is owned 50/50 by Chris Richmond and Drew Schoentrup. They purchased the site in 2014 from the original founder who is known by the pseudonym Fast Eddie.
What is Proper Media?
Shortly after acquiring TVTropes, Chris and Drew co-founded an adtech platform called Proper Media. They wanted to find a way to bring in more premium advertisers for websites. They ran it as a separate company with TVTropes as a client as well as other notable sites including Salon.com and Snopes. They sold Proper Media in 2021 to Sovrn Holdings. We know there was confusion when the news came out that Proper Media was sold. To be clear Proper Media never owned TVTropes. It was always owned by Chris and Drew directly under the company name Tropes, Inc (later renamed to TVTropes.org, Inc).
