Same Name Girl Posse

Name Space:
Main
Page Type:
Trope
A very specific type of girl posse. They may have a leader, or they may all be essentially identical. They all have the same name, or variations thereof, and are referred to collectively by their shared name, and individually by their last initial. It can also include theme names, flowers, gems, etc... Needs More Examples

This trope often conveys a certain cliquish social conformity amongst the girls. In most cases, it suggests middle class conformity in general, as names often go through waves of popularity and tend to suggest certain social fashions.

I think so. They are pretty mean to everyone else. Or at least Eddy is.

The one all-female gang in The Warriors is "The Lizzies," possibly as a reference to Lizzie Borden, possibly as a play on a shorter variation of the word "lesbians."

And, of course, the Girl Group The Donnas.

This one might as well just be called The Debbies.

There is a movie with the mean girls in it called The Debbies. And ironically, in the movie Mean Girls, the mean girls are called The Plastics.

Well, that's a good example, but not everyone knows of that movie. The trope name should make sense to everyone.

Actually you're thinking of the movie Heathers. I was referring to the girls from The Oblongs. It just always seemed to be the epitome of the trope for me. Maybe it's not as well known as I thought.

    Yeah, not quite. I haven't seen Heathers or The Oblongs. ^^;

    The Libbies, maybe?

These girls also tend to wear similar clothes and have similar poses. Expect them to look up to each other as fashion role-models.

@Grandy. They don't really count. This is about Girl Posses, and the Jennys and Joys don't hang out with each other. They are more of identical family members.

The Mrs. Danvers are a sinister, if slightly absurd, clone army, not a cliquish mean-girl posse!

^ given that we've had this YKTTW draft for over a year now and we seem to have less than five actual examples, this one looks to be dead in the water.

Can we get some more context on the examples? There needs to be a common thread to be tropable.
