Artistic License: Police Work & Investigation

The inaccurate portrayal of police officers and their equipment in media.

Name Space:

Trope
With the obvious exception of COPS, nearly every Police Procedural, Buddy Cop Show, and detective show portrays the police and their equipment in a very inaccurate light, usually due, in some part, to The Coconut Effect. This can range from portraying all English policemen as Bobbies (especially if the work is set in the modern day) to portraying all American cops like stereotypical (and Irish) New York City Cops. Related to both Artistic License Law and Artistic License Military.

Another artistic license "miscellaneous errors" page? No. Please no.

Cop shows follow many tropes in portraying police work inaccurately. Like the Enhance Button or Fingerprinting Air. If you can think of more tropes like those, YKTTW them. But don't create another errors.Subject X page. Those just discourage people from making actual trope pages from such examples.
