Just gonna wing it speech

A character prepares a speech, and is just starting to speak, when he decides he's just going to speak from the heart and wing it.

Throwing Out The Script

I know I've seen this more than once. Picture this, the character is reading from a letter, and he's stuttering, and he's sweaty, and all that. Then he rips up the piece of paper he wrote his speech on and basically wings it, and ends up giving a pretty good speech.

Help me out here.

Subverted in The Simpsons "Take Me Life, Please", Homer was running for class president in high school, when he was about to give his speech that he wrote on some index cards, he rips it up and tells the crowd he's going to speak from his heart which impresses his classmates. But he doesn't know what to say and he ends up trying to read from his ripped speech. Everybody laughs at him and his principal gave him ten days of detention for his terrible speech.

Used near the beginning of The Dark Knight Rises. Jim Gordon had written a speech in which he'd reveal to the world that Harvey Dent was driven insane in the final days of his life and tried to kill Gordon's son, but he decides now is not the time for to expose the inconvenient truth and instead gives a speech about how much better Gotham has become in the years since Harvey's death.
