Roar Dakka

Name Space:
Main
Page Type:
Trope
Formerly "Screaming While Rapid Firing"

There's something about the roar of a machine gun that makes the wielder want to roar along with it.

The character could be letting off some anger, or despair, or just get caught up in the adrenaline of the moment.

Can overlap with Firing In The Air A Lot.
  • The end of Rambo II.
    • Also done in the low budget knockoff Strike Commando, as well as the Predator ripoff Robowar.
  • Picard did this when gunning down the Borg in ''Star Trek First Contact.
  • O'Connell did this when trying to shoot at the wall of sand in The Mummy.

Jack Black does it in the poster for Tropic Thunder.

    "Roar Dakka"

I laughed. I love that one. It's perfect.

EDIT: Now does anyone have a good picture? Most of the ones I want don't show the machine gun firing when the shooters get to the roaring.

This page has one image that might do.

Oh wait, this might be better yet.

I believe of all characters, Spongebob Squarepants does this (albeit with a clothes machine gun) in the alternate universe episode where Plankton becomes Mr. Krabs. Most likely a parody of the trope.

You'll have to find another one. It's a reported virus page.

Weird, I'm not getting any warnings.

Well some programs and browers might have different sites that are treated as bad.

As for the link I can go to, I still just see the roar, and not the rapid fire.

^There are several falling whatsanames mid-air on the left side. It's perfect.

As another possibility, what about this?

Yeah that'd work pretty well too

Point Break has the infamous scene where a character shoots rapidly into the air while screaming. It was later parodied by Hot Fuzz.

^ I think you mean Point Break.

I think my problem with the Team Fortress picture is that it looks more like he's just really happy to be shooting, not roaring with the gun. Because most examples aren't really smiling, but giving an almost primal expression.

Sgt. Whittaker does this towards the end of Final Fantasy The Spirits Within, as he repeatedly fires a truck-mounted cannon at a giant Phantom. Justified, because he tried to lure it away from the other heroes. This quickly becomes a Heroic Sacrifice, though considering he was already dying from earlier wounds, anyway, he didn't have much to lose.

The current page picture for Trigger Happy might work, but then that'd new a new page image.

^ Oh, that is a good one. Perhaps the Trigger Happy picture should be two parts: a character getting a silly reason to use a gun, and then opens fire.

Mifune, from Matrix Revolutions. Good picture on this page.

On the team fortress 2 examples, the sound definitely fits the "roar" idea quite well. (there's a specific line that shows this, I think a domination line, though I'm not sure how to link to it.)

Well I'd like to launch this, but we can certainly take up the picture on the forums.
