Trope
Here's a trope that I just noticed. It seems to be extremely common in Disney animated features but I've seen it other places as well.

There are two elements to this trope, which are related:

- The more armor and equipment a soldier is equipped with, the less powerful he is in combat. (Obvious example: Stormtroopers.)

- A single character, often one that you would not expect to have combat training or special powers, can easily out-fight (or at least run away from) a large number of trained professional soldiers.

(I came up with this idea while watching "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" during the scene near the beginning where Esmeralda is running away from the soldiers. Similar scenes occur in Aladdin as well.)

The first isn't Red Shirt, though it's related. Perhaps Redshirt Armor?

I like Redshirt Armor, though I'd love to see this stated as a law. Also, be sure to compare Fight In The Nude.

Thats Redshirt Army - An entire army is useless and only the hero/important character survives.

There's a variant: the larger the number of a given type of bad guy, the weaker they get. One ninja is a deadly opponent; a squad of ninjas can be beaten up by the hero.

That's a different trope, but I think it needs its own entry as well. It's briefly touched upon in one of the examples in Redshirt Army ("Consider the phenonmenon of ninjas in groups...").

In Wikipedia, they're The Stormtrooper Effect, and the Inverse Ninja Law, respectively.
