In Liar Liar, Jim Carrey attempts to declare that a blue pen is red. He can't say it, and he can't even write it. His efforts become more frantic, until his secretary discovers him whimpering 'The pen is blue' like a madman.

This trope is for those days when you just can't get rid of a bomb.

  • In "The Ticket Master" episode of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, Twilight Sparkle can't get a decent lunch for her friends trying to do her favors in an attempt to win her over and get the other ticket to the Grand Galloping Gala.
  • "A Spell For Chamelon", the first novel of the Xanth series, features the apparently powerless Bink trying to find out if he does have a power. Good Magician Humphrey should be able to tell him, but increasingly improbable circumstances keep interrupting or drowning him out.

Needs More Examples."
