Chorale Rise

The entire cast stands up to sing a chorale

Name Space:
Page Type:
The moment in the show when the entire cast stands up and applies the full volume of their massed voices to an anthemic, fully harmonized chorale, preferably sung a capella.

This is mostly an opera/musical theater trope.

  • Parodied in the first finale of The Pirates of Penzance, where a recitative provides a flimsy excuse for everyone to rise and sing an a capella anthem to Poetry.
  • In Leonard Bernstein's Candide, the last verse of "Make Our Garden Grow" swells into a big a capella chorale.
