Dentists Hate Nerds

The odd tendency that, amongst a large group of orally-normal peers, the \"nerdy\" type will have clunky braces or bad teeth.

Especially prevalent in cartoons, it seems that nerds are subject to bad oral correctness or clunky, embarrassing orthodontic implants. (This is the very first post I've ever put on TV tropes ever, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but I've explored tropes to a dizzying degree and have so far seen nothing like this. Feel free to input your opinion!)

Tropes are storytelling tools, conventions that a writer can rely on to be present in the audience's minds. The way this idea would be framed as a trope would be that orthodontia (especially highly visible or clunky appliances, like headgear) is often used as shorthand for "nerd". Surely there is already an article like that, though.

I think this is covered by Braces Of Orthodontic Overkill, which says "be prepared for the be-headgeared character to be a stereotypical nerd, or at least take on a few nerdy mannerisms. No popular or cool kid ever has to wear one of these ridiculous things."
