This appears to be one of the few remaining working parts of the site. This could be... interesting.

Yes, but are they Terrorists Without A Cause?
  • September 9, 2008

I've forgotten what that trope is. Fortunately, I can just click on the link to find out... OH WAIT

    pretty lame terrorists.

@alliterator: Or they just do it for the lulz...hackers are like this...

Can we be sure that the hacked pages can be restored?

Lale: This isn't a trope. This will be an interesting note in the News and Announcements archives. Can it be fixed?
  • September 9, 2008
    FreezairForALimitedTime
We can recover. We've done it before, of course.
  • September 9, 2008

Lale: Judging by the comments on Youtube, this must have been done a few minutes ago. I can't believe I log on just before bed, and the site gets hacked!
  • September 9, 2008
    CosmicOsmo
Definitely more interesting than a mere crash, that's for sure.
  • September 9, 2008
    EponymousKid
    Almost as annoying, though.

Yeah, you have to be proud when that kind of things happen. "That site is dangerous! It is an enemy of our ideals!"

I'm picturing Fast Eddie in a Die Hard situation right now.

    Damn you, IRL!
  • September 9, 2008

Try going to any not-YKTTW page on the site. It redirects to a page and then a You Tube video.

    Very strange...
  • September 9, 2008

Certainly the most interesting thing to happen to TV Tropes since I've been here. I'd still like to be allowed to go troping right now, though. This is ridiculous.
  • September 9, 2008
    FreezairForALimitedTime
Fast Eddie's doing what he can, I'm sure.

    A poverty video.

    Hmmph.

The author's already taunting us on the comments page, but I think he might have done damage control from some of the ThePesci pescis we have. That, or it's Anon framing him.

I blame Anon, because they're hackers on steroids. We should buy a dog...

    Sorry, lame meme is lame.
  • September 9, 2008

Qabandi isn't denying it, he's deleting all negative comments, and he's locked out ratings. That's as good as a confession for me.
  • September 9, 2008
    Unknown Troper
Buncha jerks. I might have even been vaguely interested in their motives/whatever, had they not OVERTAKEN MY FAVORITE WEBSITE!! I wish I knew how to hack, then I would make their page redirect to TV Tropes. Wouldn't thst be sweet, sweet revenge?
  • September 9, 2008
    Eida
I was most puzzled when, upon clicking a link, I was directed to that Youtube video... at first I thought it must have been an offsite link, and somehow relevant, but sadly I learned otherwise when I tried to get back to TV Tropes.

I do hope this gets fixed soon. At least YKTTW is still up!

  • September 9, 2008

Hmm? Well, not really. It was just some Muslim redirecting a nerdy wiki's users to a poverty video.
  • September 9, 2008
    Sackett
Most links are still not working for me.

I reported him to You Tube, we'll see if they do anything about him.

A You Tube video showing dying babies and a request for monies for a Muslim Charity?

Seems a rather lame hacking, I'm trying to decide if that improves the chances it was a terrorist or not. Terrorists are pretty lame... and since so many of the plans revolve around blowing themselves up I'm thinking their planning skills are pretty lame too, so maybe it follows that their hacking will also be lame.
  • September 9, 2008

Oh, working now, thankyou to whoever fixed it.

I have been rickrolled once in my life (from this site, actually). I have since listened to the song of my own free will (at least I think it's mine, might have been left here by someone else) more times than I can count.

It looks like the graffiti was wiped from the wiki itself some time in the last five minutes, but the fora are still, well...
  • September 9, 2008
    ShayGuy
Just index.php. Try this, replacing 18 with whatever number corresponds to the forum you want. Yack Fest is 3, Trope Talk is 17...for others, well, use trial and error.

Since posting or logging in or out in the main forum currently seems to be impossible (at least for me), I'd just like to say the following here: Qabandi appears to have changed my name there to "Epiblast the Good Hearted", made me a moderator, given me a huge and fictitious postcount, put a "cute" little message to me in my sig, and probably done other things. I don't know if he's somehow congratulating me for something he thinks I said, or if he's trying to turn other people here against me, or what, so I'd just like to say right now that I emphatically reject all the little "favors" he's given me. Any changes you see in my board profile or posts as of this evening are his doing, and do not meet with my approval. I just hope he doesn't start posting in my name...

EDIT: OK, it appears that not only can I not post anything or log in or out, but I can't PM anyone either. I'm listed as a mod, but clicking on "moderator control panel" just brings me to the main forum page, as does attempting to send a PM. I hate to sound like a beggar, but does anyone know a way to help me out here? Please?

  • September 10, 2008

"let us celebrate with a page to shun on that ****."

No, let's not. Calling attention to this is very much not what we should do. We'd be inviting more trouble.

For the record, this is what's showing up on the top of pages. Though, oddly, the pages are now still readable.

Also, I hope maybe there's a way to pull the forum posts out and stick them somewhere where people can read what we were talking about... but I don't hold out much hope of this being a possibility.
  • September 10, 2008

He's a muslim who did something we don't like. You're telling me there's a stricter definition?

He's a Muslim, who decided it's a good idea to hurt innocent third parties in the name of a political cause entwined with his religion.

All that separates that from terrorism is a matter of degree. (Not to mention his youtube page specifically mentions jihad and says that no innocent civilian is to be harmed, so like terrorists, he has a very loose definition of "innocent civilian".)

If anyone wants to play games while we wait, there's always Travians. You can challenge other plays to games without using Action Points, and the games include Connect Four, Yahtzee, Battleship, Blackjack, Tic-Tac-Toe, Chess, Reversi, and Dots-and-Boxes. I may be forgetting one or more.

The game itself, the questing part, is a horrible, horrible thing, built on Broken Bridges and Insurmountable Waist-High Fences, but just ignore that part and think of it as a way to play games and chat with friends.

    a Message from Qabandi,

The PH Pbb forums had nothing to do with it.... I'm still here.

I've received many emails claiming they were you and asking for the sensitive information, so I hope you understand why I couldn't email the vulnerabilities to you, since I didn't know which one was you.

Create a file in C:apachehtdocs that has your email in it, and I will send you the info. and the full story of how and why I hacked your website.
