Backstabbing Monster

In video games, a monster that only attacks when your back is turned

This appears predominantly in Platform Games. It's a creature that looks perfectly cute and innocuous while your character on-screen is facing it. Possibly it even looks like a rock or other terrain feature as camouflage.

Then, if you turn your back on it, it'll move forward and attack you when it gets close enough - unless you turn back to face it, in which case it goes back to looking innocent.

    • There was a spider-like robot in American Mc Gees Alice that always appears hanged on the wall like decoration until you turn your back from them.

    • Scarfies from Kirby series normally just floats around looking cute, but when Kirby just slowly go away or idly standing, they'll slowly chase Kirby while turning into a one-eyed sharp-toothed abomination - and turning back into looking cute once Kirby faces them again.

    • The Stalkers in Assassins Creed Revelations try to get behind Ezio and Back Stab him before running away--however, if you turn around or leap sideways just before they attack (the scary sound effect that precedes it is the clue), they'll just turn tail and run immediately.

    One enemy in A Link To The Past copies your movements and attacks whenever both sprites are aligned, usually when your back is turned.

    A better title is needed. When I first saw it, I thought of a treasonous monster. However, I can't think of any title that is better that fits.
