Scrappy Pairing

A pairing, Canon or not that is hated by the fans.

Name Space:
Main
Page Type:
Trope
The scrappy pairing is exactly what it's called a pairing (Canon or not) that's hated by the fans. There are several reasons it's hated. Perhaps people would prefer one of the characters to not be in a relationship, maybe it gets in the way of a preferred ship, maybe it used to be liked but recent revelations in the story fill it with No Yay.

This doesn't have to be Canon. Non-canon pairing imagined by fans can be made that cause instant disgust in another part of the fanbase.

This feels like potential Flame Bait and I'm not sure how it's different from No Yay. But here:

^ As much as I agree with that example, and a few others... and think that "Scrappy Breakup" (for all the shit marvel, and then dc, have done) would be a good counterpart, I'm not sure we need this ymmv trope, as it just asks for Shipping Wars.

Yeah the problem with this proposal is there's maybe three "agreed upon" bad couples I can think of if I really tried. (And even one them, Lana/Clark in Smallville does have a small pocket of fans, or at least did at one time). Like I said at the top there this is kind of Flame Bait (and if its open to couples that were never canon to start with....I think you hit the nail on the head about shipping wars).

We had a very similar trope to this once, but it got taken down. I forget what it was called. Something with a ship pun (which may have been another reason it was removed).

^I know we still have Ship To Ship Combat (shippping wars) and No Yay (which this is really close to...although that's more about being grossed out being grossed out by a ship than annoyed by it I guess?).

Yeah, I think this one is Sealed Evil In A Can that we should not unleash...

We already have a YMMV entry for unpopular pairings under Strangled By The Red String, too...

Should be obvious, but this is gonna be a YMMV trope.

^^^ Indeed. We hardly need more shipping tropes than we already have. Let alone complaining tropes. Let alone complaining about shipping "tropes".
