Never Bring a Knife to a Gun Fight, right? Unless you plan on the fight lasting so long that you run out of bullets. But you never bring your fists to a knife fight, right? Unless the fight lasts so long that your blades dull or break, too.

Stalemate To The Fists is where two opponents seem to be so evenly-matched that, even though they begin the fight with proper weapons (or superpowers), they eventually keep fighting it out that at the end they are reduced to just punching each other. And even then, there might not be any clear winner. You can expect both parties to experience a Heroic Second Wind.

A convenient way to end the fight if Defeat Means Friendship. Also a good way for one party to eventually give up and declare the other a Worthy Opponent.

Mahou Sensei Negima!: In the Negi vs Jack Rakan battle, both of them launch devastating attacks until they run out of steam, and get up to continue pummeling each other.

Sounds a bit like Combat Breakdown.

This used to happen to Hal Jordan fighting other lanterns ALL..THE...TIME. Against Sinestro alone it's happened at least two times that I can recall, and probably a lot more that I can't. And it's happened against Guy Gardner at least once, and it may have even happened once against Kyle back during Hal's Parallax days.

Also, The Matrix has it with Smith and Neo in the subway fight.

Combat Breakdown but more specific. Only one example. No action in two years. Discarding.
