Sturdy Wizard

A character who uses magic, but can also take a good beating

Name Space:
Main
Page Type:
Trope
Bob, is fighting against Alice, a magician. Since everybody knows every magician is a [1], Bob charges in and strikes Alice, expecting to KO her in one hit. Except she doesn't take a dent of damage, and proceeds to burn Bob to crisp.

Alice is an example of a [2]. The opposite of a Squishy Wizard, Sturdy Wizards are people that while specializing in magic, does not sacrifice their defensive capabilities. Unlike Kung-Fu Wizardss, they aren't necessarily proficient in martial arts or Ki Attacks, just as long as they have good defense.

Contrast Squishy Wizard. Compare Might Glacier, Kung-Fu Wizard

Examples:
  • In [[Main/Disgaea Disgaea]] series, the Aqua Demon monster class is supposed to be this, having the highest defense of all magic-based classes.
  • Otome in Shin Megami Tensei:Devil Survivor 2 if leveled-up enough becomes this. At level 99, she has both maximum Magic and Vitality.
  • Pamela in Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis becomes this thanks to her physical immunity and [3] skills.

^^ Nah, this isn't Glacier Waif. It would be related to it though. Glacier Waif is a Mighty Glacier who doesn't look it; they're small, and not very muscular.

    • In Warhammer40000 Space Marine librarians and Chaos Space Marine sorcerers are gene-enchanced superhuman soldiers in addition to being psykers. Other examples include Eldrad Ulthran, who is not only the greatest farseer of Craftworld Ulthw√©, but also the only non Phoenix Lord Eldar with toughness 4 (as high as a Space Marine). Combined with a 3+ invulnerable save and a psychic power that lets you reroll failed saves, he's extremely durable). Every single monstrous creature that is a psyker (or a Daemon of Chaos Gods other than Khorne) also counts for obvious reasons.

most Barrier Warriors could count i think, unless we're counting naturarl physical resistance, might still be something to compare/contrast

^not necesarily, that is about a user of both magic and physical(weapons included) attacks, whiles this is simply a Squishy Wizard that really isn't squishy(but not necesarily Made Of Iron either)

You have just confirmed what I have been fearing. This is not a trope. This is just random aversions to an actual trope. It shall be discarded.
