Jerkass Sacrifice

A character sacrifices themselves solely to dick with the others.

Name Space:
Main
Page Type:
Trope
The opposite of Heroic Sacrifice, a character, usually a villain, sacrifices themselves solely to make things harder for the other characters. May be so that they can frame them for something, or may simply be because the character is a Jerkass and this is their way of getting the last laugh.

Either way, the hero is being royally screwed.

I recall the Joker killed himself in The Dark Knight Returns (I think it was that one wasn't it) because he knew everyone would believe Batman did it (even though Batman decided not too).

Indeed, that was one of the chief examples I was thinking of, as well as Super Kami Guru's sacrifice from Dragon Ball Abridged: "I feel that they have finally summoned the dragon. Would be a real dick move to die right now. Huuuuurrrrkkkk! (dies).

The Master, in that episode of Doctor Who where the Doctor's begging him to regenerate and he chooses not to?

Yep, Master does so in Last of the Time Lords just to further torment The Doctor about being the last Time Lord.

This is a What Could Have Been for Fatal Attractions. Glenn Close, the Yandere, kills herself with a knife which has Michael Douglas' fingerprints on it, to frame him. Test audiences didn't like it and demanded "That BITCH has to die!"

Belkar in Order Of The Stick tries to get Miko to kill him purely so that she'll lose her status as a paladin.

Return Of The Jedi: The Emperor tries to get Luke to kill him, so that Luke will come over to the Dark Side.

Return of the Jedi doesn't count. He wasn't doing it to simply be a dick, he had a full purpose for it and back-up plan so that he'd be able to survive anyway.

One version is a husband living in separation from his wife, who commits suicide just a day before she could get some money out of him ( like, on the last day of his insurance grace period).
