The Hero has conquered the enemy or Big Bad, who's confessed to everything. The Hero's on the verge of killing him, some may feel that he's entirely justified. But then the Hero remembers that his Love Interest, Dead Sister or Friend would want him to show mercy, so he does, whilst still defeating the villian.

Example:

Jason Bourne, in the Bourne Supremacy film, refrains from killing Ward Abbot, even though he confessed to trying to have Jason and Marie killed to cover his own fraud; because Marie wouldn't want him to.
