I think you need to be more descriptive, because I don't understand how this will work as a trope.

A lighter has replaced the old trope of tossing a cigarette, because smoking is no longer cool.

    • In an episode of WKRP In Cincinnati offscreen Bailey had threatened Herb with setting his polyester suit on fire if he didn't help with her committee to save the building from demolition. When Herb goes to Andy to complain, Bailey enters and asks Andy if he has any matches. He gives her a matchbook, and she starts to toss lighted matches at Herb until he goes back to what he was supposed to be doing.
    • on Supernatural when torching bones of dead people so they won't come back as ghosts, Dean usually douses the bones with lighter fluid, then lights his Zippo and tosses it into the pile (often in Slo Mo).

Another example: In the manga version of Naruto, this is how Shikamaru lights up a set of exploding tags to bury the Nigh Invulnerable Hidan in a trap.
