When Generic Outer Space goes wrong. Sometimes a generic space background simply does not fit your story, like when seeing several planets hanging overhead in a comic set on Mars, or when a species that kills everyone that does not belong to their race still has hundreds of different species in the background of their cities.

Examples

Comic Books
  • The stargate comics often suffer from this, with cities filled to the brim with different species, despite the stargate universe only having half a dozen intelligent species living in that galaxy, most of which don't get along.
  • JLA cry for justice has this with green lantern and green arrow passing several asteroids on their way from the JLA base, despite it being in orbit around earth.
