Ha Ha Ha No

Name Space:
Main
Page Type:
Trope
Needs a Better Description

When a character, either feigning genuine laughter or being obviously sarcastic, pretends to laugh along with other characters, or encourages/threatens them to do so, then abruptly tells them to shut up, in one way or another.

Examples: In Toy Story, when Bruce the shark finds Woody's hat and does a lame impression of him, Woody does a version of this.

In Labyrinth, Jareth pulls this on his goblin Mooks after telling them the "you remind me of the babe" joke.

Doug Heffernan seems to do this (or a variation of it) at least every other episode.

Billy Madison has a quite distinctive version of this. Mostly due to Adam Sandler shouting it at the dinner table.

Bump. I've seen this all over the place, but I'm having trouble remembering any specific examples.

    iwintheinternets?
Family Guy uses this a lot in later seasons.

This Troper uses it to crush his friends hearts.

I want to just call this Ha Ha No, because that's what Trilby says in Five Days A Stranger when you try to make him pick up the idol after he's already been possessed once by it.

Ha Ha No it is, then. Any objections to a launch by tomorrow?

I'd add an extra Ha, but that could just be me.

I like Ha Ha Ha No better than Ha Ha No; the cadence sounds better to my ear. I think it sounds more like laughing started and then suddenly stopped; Ha Ha No sounds like the laughing never started, and the guy is just saying "ha ha" in that no-laughter voice.

Agreed, changing the title and launching.
