Tropey Come Home

Name Space:
Main
Page Type:
Trope
Do we really not have this?...

A character, usually a pet but human characters can also sometimes play this, wanders away from home, or gets lost, kidnapped etc. While the story on one side will deal with how they cope with life outside their comfortable home and their efforts to find their way back, it will just as much focus on how their friends deal with missing them. Usually will end with An Aesop for both parties, the runaway learning that There's No Place Like Home, while their friends that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone. The reunion can be a Crowning Moment of Heartwarming.

Examples:

(title is of course after Tropey the Wonder Dog, but taking suggestions)

The closest I could find is Come Back My Pet, only instead of the pet getting lost, it's abandonned, and instead of the owner being worried for the pet until it's found, it takes being put in danger and being saved by the pet before the owner thinks to care about the pet again. I like this trope better.

At one point, Hobbes gets lost in the woods, and Calvin's parents have to go look for him at night. Calvin's mom even calls out "Hobbes! Where are you?!"

The original story Lassie Come-Home (1938) by Eric Knight was adapted into the beloved 1943 film Lassie Come Home, which is almost certainly the Trope Namer, and probably the Trope Codifier as well.

Love it. Do not change the title. As you said, Tropey The Wonder Dog is a good justification to use "trope" in the title. Please, fellow tropers, don't complain this time.

Too long didn't read version: I vote for Tropey Come Home

Agreed. Also Animal, Come Back Animal from the original Muppet Movie fits here, I think.
