Item Amplifier

A game mechanic that increases the efficiency of usable items.

Do We Have This One?

Alternative Titles: Item Intensifier

An ability or item that increases the effects or duration of items used. The Item Caddy often has this ability.

Examples include The Medic being able to heal more when using healing items, or able to heal more than one target with a single item.

Compare Amplifier Artifact, an item that boosts the user's already existing powers, Quad Damage, a power-up to a character's stats, and Money Multiplier, something that can increase the amount of items found.

Examples:

    • In Mann vs Machine mode, the Medic can upgrade any of his Mediguns to share Canteen abilities with their healing target.
  • Bioshock has the plasmids Booze Hound and EVE Link, which add EVE regeneration with the use of health items (though you still get blurred vision from drinking too much). The Medical Expert and Extra Nutrition plasmids give more traditional boosts to the effects of health items.
  • Borderlands gives us Class Mods which offer boosts to specific armaments. Borderlands2 adds Artifacts which can do similar things to just about all aspects of your character.

[[folder:Real Time Strategy]]
  • League Of Legends has this in the form of the Rabadon's and Wooglet's Deathcaps. They're a bit of a mix between this and Amplifier Artifact though, since they improve the ability power gained from any source: Be they items or the character's innate ability power.

There are hundreds of such items in World Of Warcraft, such as fishing bait, scopes for guns and bows, and (currently) a character can mine without owning a pick, but having one increases their ability by 10 points.

^ An item that increases its user's abilities is an Amplifier Artifact. This trope is about something that increase an item's effect(s).

The other tropers need to think that the page is worthy enough to launch before they can give you a hat.

^^ & ^: Very often, other tropers really don't care. There is no ill will there--they see a YKTTW with three hats being bumped over and over again, but don't open it, believing there is still a discussion going on. Most YKTT Ws have only two-three tropers checking on them regularly, which is why so many are stuck at three hats. To get the final two hats, the OP often has to somehow attract "independent" tropers, who can proof-read it with a fresh perspective and confirm that it's good for launch.

It became somewhat popular in recent weeks to post a "Hats, please?" notice in the YKTTW title, which is visible from the main YKTTW page, unlike the comments. I have tried it out, and it really works. I think there should be a tag for this, but tags are broken right now...

Three days must pass before this YKTTW is Launchworthy or Discardable
