2* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The Toad claiming to be [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Mewtwo]] outside the Rainbow Ride level. At first it just seems like he's just a Toad pretending to be Mewtwo, but then (to Mario's visible shock) he appears to actually begin to use Shadow Ball until he realizes that he's out of PP for the move, after which the frustrated Toad(?) uses Teleport and disappears. Was that actually Mewtwo (apparently disguised as a Toad) or just a really dedicated Toad? The game never says for sure, and the scene isn't referenced anywhere else.
3* CultClassic: ''Super Mario 63'' surprisingly still maintains a dedicated fanbase over a decade after its original release, largely due to the very flexible LevelEditor. Aside from this, there's a fairly active speedrun community as well, due to the numerous {{Good Bad Bug}}s and GameBreaker skips.
4* FridgeLogic: A Toad after the second Bowser fight mentions he was is able to go on vacation to Bowser's Castle with his family. How?

9** Unfortunately for the designer, there is obviously no way to ensure an entirely linear way of game progression, since certain areas can actually be accessed prior to their storyline appearance. In an amusing parallel to ''Super Mario 64'' proper, it's possible to skip to the first Bowser fight from the beginning, and then skip immediately to the final level from there.
10** Hover Nozzle. Lose your balance on a platform? No problem! [[DiscOneNuke Unless the platform moves in such a way you can't hover back to land, as they are wont to do later in the game.]]
11** For speedruns, the Rocket Nozzle is the primary game breaker; it's only supposed to work once per jump, but with pause buffering, it's possible to use it multiple times in a row. Using it in tandem with the Turbo Nozzle essentially lets you fly over obstacles in completely unintended ways.

There's references to memes like JustForFun/RickRoll and [[VideoGame/StarFox64 Doing a barrel roll!]] that are played completely straight, one Toad can be seen cheering UsefulNotes/BarackObama's name, a conversation with a different Toad has him say ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosBrawl'' (released in the first half of 2008) is the latest installment of ''[[VideoGame/SuperSmashBros Smash]]'', and ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy'', at the time the most recent ''Mario'' game (released in November 2007), supplies several songs on the soundtrack, like the Buoy Base Galaxy and Melty Molten Galaxy themes.
