* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Is the dress-ripping scene an early indication of David's attraction to Susan? After all, she's embarrassed him several times so why should he not want her to be publicly humiliated? Instead, he tries to cover her up and walk out of a potential meeting with Mr Peabody just to spare her the embarrassment.
* AwardSnub: Not a single UsefulNotes/AcademyAward nominee in sight.
* DiagnosedByTheAudience: Susan is completely non-malicious and not exactly unintelligent, but she seems to misread social cues and be completely oblivious to David's dislike of her. She's also occasionally LiteralMinded and more comfortable around Baby than David, suggesting she could be on the autism spectrum.
* FridgeBrilliance: Given how loveless David and Alice's intended marriage would have been, with Alice telling him they won't have a honeymoon the day before, and saying "no domestic entanglements of any kind", part of David's aversion to Susan could be because he doesn't know what it feels like to have someone legitimately interested in him.
* GeniusBonus: If you know about bones, "intercostal clavicle" is obviously a joke name. If you don't, then it sounds quite plausible.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** Susan makes up a story about David being a game hunter from Africa. Ten years later, Creator/KatharineHepburn stars in ''Film/TheAfricanQueen'' and gets an Oscar nomination for it.
** The second act of the movie has Susan bringing David to dinner against her aunt's wishes. Fast forward to ''Film/GuessWhosComingToDinner'' where Hepburn is on the other end of that argument.
** This film was a hit comedy that features a wild feline, a leopard, debuting in a bathroom that freaks out one of the leads upon finding it and now the film is owned by Creator/WarnerBros Then comes Warner's own hit comedy ''Film/TheHangover'' decades later which features another kind of wild feline, a tiger belonging to Creator/MikeTyson, also debuting in a bathroom that freaks out one of the leads upon finding it
* MemeticMutation: [[spoiler: David's dinosaur skeleton collapsing.]]
* RetroactiveRecognition: Disney fans might recognise Walter Catlett, who played Constable Slocum, as the voice of Honest John in ''WesternAnimation/{{Pinocchio}}''.
* SacredCow: Now considered one of the most beloved comedies ever made.
* SugarWiki/SheReallyCanAct: A variation. Creator/KatharineHepburn is remembered as one of the best dramatic actresses of the Golden Age of Hollywood. In this film, where she radically goes against type, she showed that she could be a talented comedian as well.
* SignatureScene: David jumping into the air while wearing Susan's robe and saying "I just went ''gay'' all of a sudden" - which is thought to be one of the first times the word was used to mean homosexuality.
* SpecialEffectsFailure: In one scene, the man-eating circus leopard is in the background, but the strings being used to move its tail and head make it painfully obvious that it's a puppet.
* VindicatedByHistory: The film was a flop in its first release, to the point where Creator/KatharineHepburn had to buy out her contract to RKO and Howard Hawks was fired from ''Film/GungaDin''. Nowadays, it's regarded as a classic.
* SugarWiki/VisualEffectsOfAwesome: Through DoubleVision, a leopard with a wrangler on set, some fearless courage from Katherine Hepburn and a few camera tricks, there's never any doubt that Baby is in the scene with the rest of the cast. And this is a movie from 1938.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: A lot of Susan's actions are very manipulative towards David, especially when she ''prevents him from getting married'' just because she likes him too. Even if David's fiancée wouldn’t have made him very happy in the end, Susan didn’t know that.
