* DoNotDoThisCoolThing: It's believed the sole reason why this film was originally rated R is because of a plot-relevant instance of [[spoiler:falsely shouting "Fire!" in a theatre]].
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Gromek is the film's best character by far, and the role was a highlight of Wolfgang Kieling's career (along with voicing Bert on ''Series/{{Sesamstrasse}}'').
** Creator/AlfredHitchcock himself viewed Countess Kuchinska as one, extending the sequence with her and giving Lila Kedrova third billing in the credits.
* FanPreferredCutContent: Many lament that Music/BernardHerrmann's [[https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkAUJkbhd-Rhikfnn2QF0RzPFWPfDbnSj score]] was thrown out in favour of the jazz score.
* RetroactiveRecognition: For German folks specifically. Professor Karl Manfred was played by Creator/GunterStrack, better known as attorney Dieter Renz in ''Series/ACaseForTwo''.
* QuestionableCasting: Pairing the #1 and #9 top moneymaking movie stars of 1966 in a film made by [[Creator/AlfredHitchcock a legendary director]] sounds great on paper. But, Creator/PaulNewman and Creator/JulieAndrews as love interests in a UsefulNotes/ColdWar spy thriller? Creator/{{Universal}}, who insisted on the casting, ''did'' make a lot of money, but none of the principals were very happy with the finished product.
* SignatureScene: The Armstrong-Gromek fight. Even people who don't much like the film consider it a classic Hitchcock scene.
