''Godzilla'' is a 2014 video game developed by Creator/{{Natsume}} and published by Creator/BandaiNamcoEntertainment, and the first ''Franchise/{{Godzilla}}'' game since ''[[VideoGame/GodzillaDestroyAllMonstersMelee Godzilla: Unleashed]]'' was released 7 years earlier, assuming that one doesn't count the mobile games for ''Film/{{Godzilla 2014}}''. The game was originally developed for the Platform/{{Playstation 3}}, with a Platform/{{Playstation 4}} port. However, production of physical copies of the Playstation 3 version has ceased, and only the [=PS4=] version is available as of February 2015.[[note]]The [=PS3=] version ''is'' available via digital download, however, but watch out for scalpers if you're in the market for a physical copy![[/note]] Tamashii Nations, the makers of the S.H. [=MonsterArts=] toyline, designed the character models for the monsters. The game was released in Japan in December 2014 and was be internationally released on July 1st, 2015.

The simple story, much like the Millennium series, is a standalone follow-up to a variant of the original film. After the original Godzilla attack in 1954, Japan studied Godzilla's energy and turned this "G-Energy" into a new clean power source. 60 years later however, a second Godzilla, a 50 meter version of the Heisei Godzilla, has emerged, seeking to destroy G-Energy plants and grow larger and stronger, fighting the JSDF and the various monsters that have climbed out of the woodwork, culminating in a clash with [[Film/{{Godzilla2014}} a third Godzilla]].

In April 2015, it was announced that Japan would be getting a significant expansion pack for the game entitled ''Godzilla VS'' featuring online multiplayer and the ability to play as any monster in the game. Shortly afterwards, it was confirmed that the international release of the game features this additional content.

!!Tropes currently listed:
* AdaptationalVillainy:
** Biollante is listed as one of the 'invading' kaiju trying to destroy everything, rather than a defending one, unlike her film counterpart who was on humanity's side.
** Legendary Godzilla is another Invade kaiju, despite being HeroicNeutral in the movie.
* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever:
** Heisei Godzilla will start off at 50 meters tall, and as the game progresses can grow upwards of 100 meters tall.
** Legendary Godzilla is set at 108 meters, towering over most other kaiju.
** Destoroyah, at 100 metres tall in every encounter, has a very specific set of requirements for him to spawn, and when he does, it always happens in the lower levels, normally when Heisei Godzilla is around 60 metres in height. Have fun fighting a 100m Destoroyah who towers over you! The only time you'll be fighting him on even footing is if you're playing Invade mode as Burning Godzilla, where he'll be the TrueFinalBoss.
* AttackReflector: Super X2 has its Fire Mirror, as in canon. Attacking it at the wrong time will result in it reflecting your attack back at you.
* BigBadEnsemble: In addition to the military trying to stop Godzilla, none of the various invading kaiju appear to be affiliated with each other and will equally pose a threat to you.
* BigCreepyCrawlies: Mothra and Battra are opponents in both their Larva and Imago forms.
* BigEntrance: ''All'' the Kaiju have an intro cutscene in the [=PS4=] version that gives them one of these. Most of them are even MythologyGag references to their previous appearances.
* BossRush: King of the Monsters Mode.
* BreathWeapon: As usual, Godzilla's main means of ranged attack is his atomic breath. Different forms of Godzilla's breath weapon are unlockable with different range and damage effects, including the Spiral Beam from ''Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah'', the mistier breath of the 1954 and Showa films, and Minya's smoke rings. King Ghidorah's gravity bolts and Heisei Mechagodzilla's mega buster also qualify.
* ByTheBookCop: Chujo, one of the possible military leaders, is this, doing everything by protocols.
* ChainsawGood: Gigan has his chainsaw hands from ''Final Wars''.
* CoolShip: The ''Gotengo/Atragon'' is one of the bosses (in its ''Film/GodzillaFinalWars'' ''Neo Gotengo'' design), as are the [[Film/TheReturnOfGodzilla Super-X]], [[Film/GodzillaVsBiollante Super-X II]] and the [[Film/GodzillaVsDestoroyah Super-X III]]. They are stage bosses/hazards, and will also appear in the [=PS4=] version's multiplayer mode, attacking the players as they fight each other.
* DiscontinuityNod: In Anguirus's entry in the game's kaiju guide, it says he fought a monster called [[Film/GodzillaRaidsAgain Gigantis]], which was banished from our plane of existence.
* DualBoss:
** Sometimes you'll end up facing a monster and a warship at the same time. Biollante and the Super-X II are the most common matchup (though if you're on the hero or antihero path, the Super-X II will attack Biollante alongside Godzilla). If you're really unlucky, you could find yourself fighting ''all three'' Super-X warships at once. And if you're ''really'' unlucky, you'll face [[FromBadToWorse Gotengo and King Ghidorah at the same time]].
** At the end of the normal difficulty God Of Destruction route if nothing is unlocked the FinalBoss is Super X and Super X2 at the same time. The Hard Mode difficulty's normal FinalBoss is ''all three'' Super Xs at the same time.
** The TrueFinalBoss of God of Destruction mode is Legendary Godzilla and Super X3.
* FightingGame: Many fans are hoping for the game to be this. Though those hopes were kiboshed when it was confirmed to be single-player only, the game will be getting an expansion that allows one to fight as any monster they want, bringing the game closer to the genre. The addition of online multiplayer appears to fully play this trope straight.
* FinalBoss:
** If nothing is unlocked, the Super Xs act as the FinalBoss of the God of Destruction mode, with the easy difficulty route having Super X by itself, the normal difficulty having Super X and Super X2, and the hard difficulty having ''all three'' at the same time.
** If conditions are met, Super Mechagodzilla or Kiryu can be the final bosses. Legendary Godzilla and Super X3 are the TrueFinalBoss if Godzilla reaches 100 meters.
** Invade and Defend mods have Heisei Godzilla as the FinalBoss, with Burning Godzilla as the TrueFinalBoss. If playing as burning Godzilla, Legendary Godzilla is thee FinalBoss with Destoroyah as the TrueFinalBoss.
* GaiasVengeance: The operator during story mode theorizes that Godzilla's rampage is because of this. Battra is also among the Invading kaiju and is presumably attacking Japan for this reason as well since this was his motivation in the source material.
* GiantFootOfStomping: One brief shot from the teaser shows Godzilla stepping on a tank.
* GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere: Pretty much all of the invading kaiju come out of nowhere when you fight them, with the presence of Showa Mechagodzilla, Biollante and Spacegodzilla especially being jarringly unexplained given their elaborate film origins. Jet Jaguar and Mecha-King Ghidorah are rare heroic variants on this, being mech's who appear out of nowhere and who's presence confuses the military, but both are Defenders.
* HumongousMecha: All three Mechagodzillas and Jet Jaguar are appearing.
* {{Kaiju}}: It ''is'' a Godzilla game.
* KarmaMeter: Godzilla can be played as a hero,[[note]]By focusing on defeating enemy kaiju and causing as little destruction as possible.[[/note]] an anti-hero,[[note]]By focusing on defeating enemy kaiju without going out of your way to avoid destruction.[[/note]] or a villain.[[note]]By going out of your way to cause as much destruction as possible.[[/note]] If you're a "hero", the human military will ignore you and focus their firepower on enemy kaiju. Cause too much destruction, and the humans will send out mechas to put an end to your rampage.
* LethalJokeItem: Among the unlockable breath options are Minya's Smoke Rings, which do heavy damage and when combined with grappling, become one of the most effective ways to damage an opponent.
* MeleeATrois: Multiplayer mode can have up to 3 kaiju all duking it out against each other. It's also possible for God of Destruction mode to have three way battles between Godzilla, the military and whichever Invader monster your fighting at the time if you cause too much destruction.
* MetalSlime: Destoroyah, who rarely spawns on Stage 4 instead of the Kaiju who was going to appear there. If he defeats you, he'll be replaced with the monster he replaced, meaning you only have a single chance at fighting him each time he appears.
* MisbegottenMultiplayerMode: The game was designed as a single-player, but the the [=PS4=] version includes exclusive content to set it apart from the [=PS3=] version, namely the addition of an online multiplayer mode with the ability to play as monsters other than Godzilla.
* MoreDakka: The three Mechagodzilla are stuffed chock full of weapons, and Heisei and Kiryu even have shoulder cannons.
* MultipleEndings: Your endings are based on your actions in the game.
* MythologyGag:
** The tutorial is [[spoiler: a black-and-white rampage through 1954 Tokyo as Heisei Godzilla]].
** Just like in ''Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster'', Godzilla can briefly fly using his Atomic Breath and do his victory dance from ''Godzilla vs. Monster Zero'' as an attack.
** Godzilla 2014 is an extremely powerful melee fighter, but his Atomic Breath only has one charge, he can't use the Nuclear Pulse, and his radiation stores takes longer to replenish than Heisei Godzilla's. This is in keeping with the movie, where it was CastFromHitPoints and only used as a last resort.
** Most of the monsters entrance scenes are these to their past appearances. For instance King Ghidorah appears in a massive explosion of fire that condenses into him and Mecha-King Ghidorah arrives from the future.
** If you hit the Super-X II's fire mirror with a breath attack while it's low on health, it'll cause it to explode like in ''Godzilla Vs Biollante''.
** Attacking Mechagodzilla II with a grab attack while he's low on health will [[OffWithHisHead remove his head]] and reveal the backup head from ''Terror Of Mechagodzilla''. He'll even continue to fight.
** Finishing Gigan with a breath attack will blow his head up like in ''Final Wars''.
** The TrueFinalBoss of God of Destruction mode changes to Destroyah if you're playing as Burning Godzilla.
** The concept of Godzilla being attracted to power sources is derived from ''Film/GodzillaVsMegaguirus''. And in both cases, the reactors in question are new clean energy sources created as a response to Godzilla.
* NoSell: Super Mechagodzilla is immune to Godzilla's breath weapon, and will use it to charge and fire his very powerful Plasma Grenade weapon. You'll have to resort to melee attacks to beat him.
* OutOfTheInferno: One screenshot shows Heisei Godzilla staring down Legendary Godzilla, who is silhouetted by an explosion.
* PreExplosionBuildup: Godzilla's nuclear pulse attack is one power.
* PurposefullyOverpowered:
** King Ghidorah is extremely powerful, and his beams make short work of a city in Invade mode, allowing him to reach 100 meters very quickly. He's also one of the most powerful monsters in Godzilla canon who regularly wipes out entire civilizations by himself, so he really wouldn't be King Ghidorah otherwise.
** Burning Godzilla has the single most powerful beam in the entire game, capable of taking out nearly half of some monsters' entire health bar in one hit if powered up with a roar. This is again completely in line with his canonical portrayal.
* RegeneratingHealth: The first Godzilla game to fully utilize this. Your health automatically heals when you take damage. Just remeber that, unlike the movies, you're not invincible, and the damage you take can overwhelm your healing.
* SceneryGorn: The teaser shows Godzilla doing what he does best: tearing a city apart, with detailed destruction and debris.
* ShoulderCannon: Kiryu's appearance appears to be based off of his ''Tokyo S.O.S.'' appearance with shoulder cannons. Heisei Mechagodzilla is in its Super Mechagodzilla mode, with the ''Garuda'' warship attached to its back with its twin laser cannons slung over its shoulders.
* ShownTheirWork: Hedorah takes little damage from most melee attacks, but is badly hurt by Godzilla's breath weapon, just like in the movie. Legendary Godzilla can even kill him with just two breath attacks.
* SpiritualSuccessor: The game itself appears to be a spiritual successor to the obscure Godzilla [[Platform/SegaDreamcast Dreamcast]] games, ''Godzilla Generations'' and ''Godzilla Generations: Maxium Impact'' in which there are alot of fixed camera angles while fighting hordes of JSDF and Super X's of the former and the fighting monsters of the latter, with none of the improbable jumping physics of the [[VideoGame/GodzillaDestroyAllMonstersMelee Atari games]].
* {{Superboss}}: Destoroyah only spawns under two very specific conditions and is always 100 meters no matter what.
* TechnicalPacifist: If Hatogaya is the leader, he at least starts out hoping that they won't have to harm Godzilla and if they just let him get his meal he'll do less damage. This has some validity, given most means the player has of destroying the military attacking will likely cause more collateral damage. whether he keeps this mentality or not depends on the player's actions.
* TrueFinalBoss:
** God of Destruction's FinalBoss is the Super Xs normally, but certain actions can change it to Super Mechagodzilla or Kiryu. The ultimate final boss is Legendary Godzilla and Super X3 at the same time.
** The Invade and Defend Modes' normal FinalBoss is Heisei Godzilla, but getting to the 100 meter mark unlocks Burning Godzilla as the TrueFinalBoss. If you play as Burning Godzilla and reach the same mark, Destroyah is the TrueFinalBoss.
* TruerToTheText: Compared to the ''VideoGame/PipeworksGodzillaTrilogy'', and one of the most faithful Godzilla games to date. The monsters don't 'moon jump' anymore (in fact the only monsters capable of jumping are the ones who can actually fly), all the monsters only have powers they canonically possess, beams are more accurately portrayed (special note is Mecha-King Ghidorah, who's central head finally has the proper beam rather than just a different colored gravity beam) and the monsters move much more like they would in the movies rather than being able to run everywhere.
* WhenTreesAttack: Biollante once again appears in her second form.
* UltimateShowdownOfUltimateDestiny: The final battle of the regular Single Player campaign has Legendary's Godzilla facing off against the Heisei Godzilla. [[spoiler:However, with Godzilla having entered his Burning phase by this point, this can be a CurbstompBattle, but Legendary Godzilla is also still capable of easily killing the player if he gets into melee range, on top of the Super X3 being fought at the same time if not defeated before he shows up]]. Playing Legendary Godzilla in Invade Mode also leads to this, as Heisei Godzilla is the FinalBoss, with Burning Godzilla as the TrueFinalBoss.
