Context Trivia / SpiceWorld

* AwesomeDearBoy: Creator/AlanCumming [[https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2021/oct/17/alan-cumming-memoir-my-favourite-movie-i-always-say-spice-world admitted]] that the opportunity of working with the Spice Girls right after Creator/StanleyKubrick in the same period was his reason to join the cast. He had just finished shooting his role in ''Film/EyesWideShut'' when he was offered to be in the film.
* TheCastShowoff: Emma shows her karate skills, while Mel C does her trademark backflip.
* CreatorBacklash:
** In the ''Giving You Everything'' documentary, Geri expressed embarrassment at her acting and hinted that the rushed shooting schedule was to blame.
** In her autobiography ''If Only'', Geri also wrote that the only moment she came close to being emotionally honest was when the girls are sitting on a park bench, wondering if they've changed since becoming famous.
---> '''Geri:''' I think we worry about different things. In the old days it was "where's our next meal coming from", and now it's "where's our next single going to".
* DeletedRole:
** Music/GaryGlitter was hastily cut out of the film once his trip to PC World made the news.
** Creator/JasonIsaacs filmed a cameo as a snobby, pretentious author and poet, but it ended up cut. Had Isaacs appeared in the film, he would have the curious distinction of being the ''only'' actor to appear in both this and the ''Film/HarryPotter'' series, remarkable considering how both are known for their [[AllStarCast all-star casts of British actors]].
** UsefulNotes/GianniVersace filmed a cameo, but it was cut following his murder.
* DeletedScene:
** The Girls' performance of "Leader of the Gang" in Italy (the scene where the backup dancers had their asses hanging out of their costumes) was initially longer and led to a cameo appearance from Music/GaryGlitter himself. However, just before release, Glitter was infamously arrested on historical child porn charges. After this, everybody got together and agreed his cameo couldn't be cut fast enough, though since it was so late in production, a [[https://youtu.be/jYRHoQP75-g bootleg version of the scene]] has made it to Website/YouTube.
** Music/EltonJohn's cameo was originally going to end with him walking away from them and saying to himself, "This never happened with Music/TakeThatBand".
** A cut scene had the girls perform [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-wBitGn9_0 "Mama"]] at the Albert Hall. This scene is on the DVD release.
** A scene of the girls and Clifford dining on pizza and Pepsi at the Dogscoff Manor was taken out. Shots of this sequence are included in a sticker book based on the movie.
* DistancedFromCurrentEvents: A mention of Princess Diana had to be removed when she was killed in a car accident three and a half months before release.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: If you live in the US good luck finding it on streaming even to ''rent''.
* MissingTrailerScene:
** The most-often-seen US ad spot had a scene of Posh asking the other girls if her dress is too short. When they answer no, she hikes it up, and then they slap fives. To a six-year-old girl, it was hilarious, but it wasn't in the (U.S., at least...) release.
** This [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmSBtOHzGPM trailer]] has a couple of scenes that were cut:
*** The girls are on the bus and Mel B complains that it's hot in there. Victoria says that she needs a fan, prompting Emma to open the door and a fangirl bursts into the room and screams in delight and then leaves. This does the trick.
*** While talking to Bob Geldof, Mel B is offered a plate of hors-d'oeuvres. She replies, "No, but I'll have one of these pie things" and eats one.
* MoneyDearBoy:
** Creator/RichardEGrant has cheerfully admitted that money was his primary consideration for appearing, along with impressing his daughter. That said, he hasn't had anything negative to say about the experience.
** Creator/RogerMoore admitted in his autobiography that he filmed his part in a day and that the fee was simply too good to refuse.
* TheOtherMarty: Frank Bruno was the original bus driver, but he left after an argument with the girls, and was replaced with Music/MeatLoaf.
* RealitySubtext: A running thread throughout is that the Spice Girls are over-worked due to their manager over-booking them for gigs. In real life, the Spice Girls would fire their manager Simon Fuller shortly after the film released, citing over-work and over-exposure among their reasons. Considering Fuller would go on to similarly overwork Music/SClub7 (flying them back and forth between the UK and America constantly), it's hard to blame them.
* RomanceOnTheSet: Mel B has claimed that the film was produced during the period when she and Geri were secretly involved in a relationship.
* StillbornFranchise: In 2010, Emma revealed that there were plans for a sequel:
-->We would've liked to do another film, but after ''Spice World'', there was an album, then a tour and then Geri left, so it didn't happen.
* SoMyKidsCanWatch:
** This was also a motivator for Grant, as his pre-teen daughter was a big fan at the time.
** Creator/StephenFry admitted in an episode of ''Series/{{QI}}'' that he took a role in the film because it allowed him to get autographed posters for his nephews, which he claimed "was like ten Christmases for them."
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Creator/RichardStanley was asked to direct.
** Creator/JohnCleese was offered the cameo that ended up going to Michael Barrymore.
** Creator/GaryOldman wanted to take part, as his kids were Spice Girls fans, but he had scheduling conflicts.
** [[https://uk.movies.yahoo.com/the-truth-behind-the-lost-gary-glitter-cameo-in-142328383.html According to the producer]], there were plans for then-Prime Minister UsefulNotes/TonyBlair to have a cameo:
--->We had this sequence where it started off outside Number 10 and Tony Blair came out very seriously in front of the press corps and said something like, "I've given it a lot of thought and I've decided my favourite Spice Girl is..." And that was going to be the start of the movie. [But] he was Prime Minister and he felt he couldn't do it.
** Originally Disney approached the band to do the film and wrote a script that was about a young single mother of one of the girls, fighting hardship to form the band but the band turned them down because they didn't like the Disney-fied version of the script.
** As mentioned above, There were plans for a sequel but the idea was scrapped due to Geri Halliwell's departure.
