* AcclaimedFlop: While "acclaimed" might be over-selling it, the film got a generally positive reception across the board despite its disappointing financial performance and could even be called a CultClassic in grindhouse circles.
* ActingForTwo: Nick Bateman plays both Ivan and Rip.
* ActorInspiredElement: It was Creator/RutgerHauer's idea to cut holes in his hat and use it as a mask.
* BoxOfficeBomb: Budget: $3 million. Box office: $834,953.
* CastTheRunnerUp: The actor from the original trailer, David Brunt, was originally supposed to play the character in the feature film. However, Brunt disappeared for several weeks and when he was eventually found by the producers they discovered he was intentionally avoiding them because he was afraid to take on the role as he did not think he could carry an entire feature film by himself. The producers consoled him and offered him to cameo in the film instead as the dirty cop. He appears in two scenes and gets the line: ''We're all dirty cops!'' [[spoiler: He is also the one who kills the Hobo at the end of the film]].
* CompletelyDifferentTitle:
** Brazil: ''The Avenger''
** Romania: ''The Armed Vagabond''
* {{Defictionalization}}: Started as a trailer in ''Film/{{Grindhouse}}''.
* StillbornFranchise:
** There were plans for a prequel/spin-off centered around [[EvilDuo The Plague]] and a full script was apparently written [[https://geektyrant.com/news/2011/4/4/jason-eisener-plans-hobo-with-a-shotgun-spinoff-and-kids-fil.html set to expand on their past]], but the team simply could not get funding for it, presumably due the BoxOfficeBomb status of it.
** There were also plans for a sequel where the Hobo literally ends up in Hell. Again, the BoxOfficeBomb status was probably the reason why this was never made either.
* TheForeignSubtitle:
** Canada: ''Hobo with a Shotgun: No Home, No Mercy''
* ThrowItIn: Creator/RutgerHauer lost his balance and fell when climbing out of the shopping cart. Director Jason Eisener decided to keep it in the movie.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: According to Jason Eisener, his first choice for "The Drake" was Wrestling/JakeRoberts, but he was unable to get into Canada at the time.
