* CreatorBacklash: The original depiction of Earthsea's sexist societies was just because that was what genre convention was at the time, not with any eye towards questioning it. Le Guin attributed the two-decade gap between the third and fourth books to this; she couldn't finish it until she saw the issue and figured out how she wanted to address it.
* OutlivedItsCreator: The final Earthsea story, "Firelight", was published a few months after Le Guin's death, though she wrote it herself. No one else has taken up the stories since then.
* SequelGap: Eighteen years between ''The Farthest Shore'' and ''Tehanu''.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: She was herself very keen on a planned adaptation by Creator/MichaelPowell (director of ''Film/AMatterOfLifeAndDeath'') whose films she admired and believed that his vision aligned with hers. She co-wrote the screenplay with Powell and regretted it when it didn't get funding. The screenplay has been published but is now out of print.
* WritingByTheSeatOfYourPants: Le Guin was open from the start that she had no idea what any place on the gigantic world map was like until a story visited it. At least half were left still a mystery at the time of her death.

* BillingDisplacement: Creator/AmandaTapping is credited among the other major actors, but her actual screentime is literally under ten seconds.
* DisownedAdaptation: Creator/UrsulaKLeGuin ''[[https://slate.com/culture/2004/12/ursula-k-le-guin-on-the-tv-earthsea.html loathed]]'' the miniseries, particularly the fact they {{Race Lift}}ed the brown Ged into a fairly generic white ActionHero. That the producers had essentially baited her into sign over the filming rights with false promises that she would have a great amount of control over the adaptation, only to gradually cut her completely out of the creative process and straight up ignore her repeated attempts to point her concerns over the script, called her "Miss [=LeGuin=]" and their false claims that she approved the adaptation certainly did nothing to help.
-->'''Le Guin:''' When I looked over the script, I realized the producers had no understanding of what the books are about and no interest in finding out. All they intended was to use the name ''Earthsea'', and some of the scenes from the books, in a generic [=McMagic=] movie with a meaningless plot based on sex and violence.
* RomanceOnTheSet: Mark Hildreth (Jasper) and Creator/KristinKreuk (Tenar).
