* AcclaimedFlop: The anime was widely praised by critics and is [[GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff especially well-loved in the United States]], but in Japan it did poorly in ratings and DVD sales.
* AllStarCast: The English dub of the anime in particular has ''many'' mainstays of Funimation dubs as well as several noteworthy names that would gain more fame in later years of anime dubbing.
** The primary EnsembleCast features Creator/CaitlinGlass, Creator/JMichaelTatum, Creator/BrinaPalencia, Creator/ToddHaberkorn, Creator/MaxeyWhitehead, Creator/JoelMcDonald, Creator/JerryJewell, Creator/MonicaRial, and Creator/JasonLiebrecht.
** The supporting cast also has the likes of Creator/ColleenClinkenbeard, Creator/JadSaxton, Creator/EricVale, Creator/TrinaNishimura, Creator/LeahClark, Creator/ChuckHuber, Creator/CheramiLeigh, Creator/IanSinclair, Creator/JustinCook, and Creator/ChrisPatton.
* FakeNationality: The anime's English dub has this in spades. Specifically with the immortals from the Advena Avis.
* LateExportForYou: For a long time, the only options to read the original light novels were either knowing Japanese or Chinese. It wasn't until 2015 that Creator/YenPress announced they had the English rights to publish them.
* TheOtherDarrin: Only applied to the anime's English dub, where Isaac and Miria were voiced by Creator/SamRiegel and Creator/JennieKwan respectively in their ''Literature/{{Durarara}}'' cameos, since both anime licenses were managed by different companies at the time ''Durarara!!'' was dubbed[[note]](From 2015 onwards, Aniplex of America manages ''both'' Narita's series and both she and Tatum have worked in LA-based dubs after Durarara!!)[[/note]].
* PlayingAgainstType: Quite a few of the more famous Japanese voice actors in the anime adaptation go completely against the grain of their usual playing type. Particular cases are Creator/TomokazuSugita and Creator/MasakazuMorita, who forgo their usual DeadpanSnarker and upbeat [[TheHero Hero]] roles in favor of [[AxCrazy batshit insanity]] as Graham and Claire.
** On the other hand, you also have Creator/JMichaelTatum playing the upbeat and idiotic Isaac instead of his usual roles as TheStoic and/or TheSmartGuy (sometimes with glasses).
* QueerCharacterQueerActor: AmbiguouslyBi Graham is voiced by the gay Creator/ChrisPatton in the dub.
* StarMakingRole: For Creator/JoelMcDonald, Creator/IanSinclair and Creator/MaxeyWhitehead in which Jacuzzi, Dallas and Czeslaw happened to be their first major roles. The former two would eventually solidify their careers with ''Anime/SpaceDandy'' (in the case of Joel, he would also gain further fame in ''Anime/PantyAndStockingWithGarterbelt'') and the latter would go on to play Al in ''[[Manga/FullmetalAlchemist Fulllmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood]]''. To some extent, Creator/BryanMassey as Ladd also counts.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Several scenes and hooks in the anime adaptation, such as [[spoiler: Adele]] in a brief cameo in episode one and [[spoiler: Dallas' body already recovered by Lamia before Eve could find him]] show that the anime would potentially adapt The Slash arc, but the anime did very poorly in Japan and never received a second season.
