After having a Creator/RedBull, Peter decides to make his own (out of kerosene) and suffers kidney failure, and when Peter skips a dialysis appointment while waiting for a kidney donor, Brian steps up and offers his kidney... only to learn that Dr. Harman needs both, as dog's kidneys are smaller than human's. Meanwhile, Chris is assigned to write an essay for an upcoming visit from President Obama, and Meg's heartfelt speech on what hope is (based on her miserable life) is stolen by her own brother.

!!"New Kidney in Town" contains examples of:
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: Stewie starts sobbing uncontrollably and constantly tells Brian he loves him in an attempt to convince him to not give his life to save Peter's.
* ArtisticLicenseBiology: Dr. Hartman didn't even know dogs have kidneys to begin with. Then again, this may be justified as Dr. Hartman isn't a veterinarian (and, as past episodes have shown, he's barely a competent doctor for people).
* ArtisticLicenseMedicine:
** Between him constantly engaging in hazardous behavior and his morbid obesity, Peter would almost certainly be rejected from any organ transplant list That is, if he's not set as a low priority as far as transplants go..
** While animal organs have been used in human transplantation procedures, it's unlikely Brian's kidneys would even be considered in such a rare circumstance. Even if he really was a match, the fact that he was a dog with smaller kidneys, it’s very unlikely that even using both of his kidneys as one would actually have been enough on Peter regardless if he was a match. Dr. Hartman even lampshades this as he didn’t even know dogs did have kidneys to begin with.
** Combining this with ArtisticLicenseLaw, Dr. Hartman donating his kidney to Peter would likely cost his license, as physicians such as doctors and nurses are dissuaded from actually donating their own organs to their patients, as it could potentially be a violation of professional boundaries.
* AssociationFallacy: Peter says that since kerosene is fuel and Red Bull also is fuel, kerosene is Red Bull.
* BloodFromTheMouth: Peter decides to skip an appointment, believing missing one treatment won't hurt him. He's quickly proven wrong when his skin turns yellow and he pukes blood.
* BrutalHonesty: When Lois asks Dr. Hartman if there is an option other than dialysis, he pulls out a gun to Peter's head. While this could be a throwaway joke, Peter's later carelessness DOES nearly take his life.
* CerebusRetcon: Dr. Hartman offhandedly mentions a time that he tried to clone a chicken and it resulted in a man sized chicken that was incredibly hostile and eventually escaped from the medical laboratory. It's not outright said, but that chicken may be the one that has been fighting with Peter ever since the Y2K episode "Da Boom."
* HeroicSacrifice: Brian is willing to give both his kidneys to Peter, even though the procedure would kill him.
* InelegantBlubbering: Stewie is so overcome with his fear of losing Brian that he cries in a disgusting manner. His crying is so gross that his tears cover half of his eyes and his mucus spreads around his face. Then he starts hugging Brian while doing so.
* InsaneTrollLogic: Peter thinks kerosene is a component to Red Bull because it's fuel, like Red Bull.
-->Peter: Kerosene is fuel, Brian. Red Bull is fuel. Kerosene is Red Bull.
* Jerkass: In his final speeches to the family, Brian tells Meg that she needs to know her limitations and not shoot for the stars so someone stays on Earth. Then he tells Chris that he must shoot for the stars.
* KidnappedWhileSleeping: Stewie kidnaps a sleeping Brian to prevent him from donating both his kidneys to Peter, since it would kill him.
* LaughingMad: There's times where Peter gets so hyped up on Red Bull that he'll just start laughing like a machine gun; the one that stands out here is after he says "Whoa, paramedics, come on down!"
* MotorMouth: Peter definitely isn't slowing down when Red Bull's in his system...
* MST: Peter and the guys riff on the opening sequence to Series/CharlesInCharge.
* Rotoscoping: The sequence where Peter sings "Music/RayOfLight" while high on Red Bull.
* ShoutOut: Peter's yellow color and remarking that he could go on for twenty more years is a reference to WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons, which, by that point, had already been on air for more than twenty years.
* SimpleSolutionWontWork: After Peter’s condition worsens when he skips dialysis to watch his favorite tv show, leading to his kidneys shutting down again, Lois demands Dr. Hartman to give Peter a new kidney ASAP, fearing the next time his kidneys shut down again he would also happened to be trapped somewhere for no one to save him in time. Dr. Hartman reminds Lois that he’s still on a long waiting list for potential kidney donors, Lois then asks the chances of him being bumped up the list, Dr. Hartman then responds that those chances are very unlikely, and Peter is probably going to have to wait months for him until a compatible kidney donor comes by, unless she knows if anyone could be a match. Lois decides to offer her kidney to Peter, only for Dr. Hartman to tell her she isn’t a match, as they check for spouse records for compatibility and she did not pass. Dr. Hartman then suggests Lois the only other option would be to see if their children are match, only for Lois to decline, not wanting them to go through the pain of kidney transplants.
* SpeedSex: Lois allows Brian to hump her leg for 15 uninterrupted seconds as a final wish, he only does it for about three seconds.
-->Lois: I-I said you could do it for 15 seconds.\
Brian: Didn't need it.
* TakeThat:
** When Peter's skin turns yellow from not going to dialysis, Peter says that he's fine and can last another 20 years before puking blood and passing out.
** When watching Series/CharlesInCharge at the Clam, the guys [=MST3K=] with Quagmire commenting that no one has any muscle tone back then and that while they like Nicole Eggert, Joe then asks, "Didn't she bang somebody gross?"Likely answer being her costar Scott Baio
* TooDumbToLive: Peter has never been the sharpest pair of scissors inside the desk drawer to begin with, but he reaches an all-time low here when he thinks mixing in kerosene inside a blender and drinking it as a homemade Creator/RedBull is a good idea. Thus results in Peter developing kidney failure. Even worse, Peter skips dialysis to watch his favorite TV show, causing him to get even worse, and for Lois to demand that he be given a new kidney ASAP before it's too late.
* WhamLine: as Peter and Brian impatiently wait for Dr. Hartman so he start the procedure of giving Brian’s kidneys to Peter, Dr. Hartman shows up in a Patient gown instead of his usual doctor attire leading to this exchange:
->Lois: Dr. Hartman, what're you...? You're not dressed for surgery.
->Dr. Hartman: I sure am.
->Lois: But I don't understand.
->Dr. Hartman: Well, you see, Mrs. Griffin, I found another donor for your husband.
->Lois: You did?! Who?
->Dr. Hartman: Me.
->Lois: What?!
->Dr. Hartman: It turns out I'm a perfect match. And I'm willing to give up one of my kidneys.
* WhamShot: Dr. Hartman showing up in a Patient gown instead of his usual doctor attire for Peter and Brian’s supposed procedure.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom:
** Lois, who attempts to rectify the Red Bull addiction by disposing of the drink behind his back. Peter then ends up drinking kerosene.
** Joe and Quagmire convince Peter to blow off one dialysis treatment to watch Series/CharlesInCharge at the Drunken Clam, which results in Peter's health deteriorating. Since Joe is the most rational of the three, he should have encourage Peter to still go to his dialysis.
